Nowadays, the shoe game may have reached unprecedented heights. But modern sneaker heads might gasp at the realization that the options for dripped-out kicks were, at one point, severely limited. In the mid-twentieth century, between World Wars, even metal cleats on a futbol boot were an unfathomable innovation. That was until brothers Rudolf and Adi Dassler founded a company that, through a combination of athletic competitiveness, sibling rivalry and genuine paranoia, split into two titans of the sportswear industry: Puma and Adidas. And this schism was so deep and festering, that it would linger well after both men were dead and gone. poisoning the generation to come.

Dr. Stephanie Kirk is the Director of the Center for the Humanities and a Professor of Spanish, Comparative Literature, and Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies at Washington University in St. Louis. She is the author of two books: Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz and the Gender Politics of Knowledge in Colonial Mexico (Routledge, 2016) and Convent Life in Colonial Mexico: A Tale of Two Communities (Florida UP, 2007). She has also published numerous articles and essays on gender and religious culture in colonial Mexico, and on the life and work of Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz. She has edited two collected volumes: Religious Transformations in the Early Modern Americas (Penn Press, 2014) and Estudios coloniales en el siglo XXI: Nuevos itinerarios (IILI, 2011). She is currently preparing a translation and critical edition of Carlos de Sigüenza y Góngora’s convent chronicle Paraíso occidental. Stephanie Kirk is the editor of the Revista de Estudios Hispánicos.

Set in Renaissance Italy with a cast of seasoned pros including Allen Gilmore, Susannah Rogers, Danny Scheie, Annie Abrams, Mike McShane, Rob Nagle, Tessa Auberjonois, Kasey Mahaffy, Kyle Hester, Tom Patterson and J.Paul Boehmer. When the wealthy Baptista announces that he will not marry off his beautiful young daughter, Bianca, until he finds a husband for his temperamental eldest daughter, Katherina, Bianca’s suitors welcome the arrival of the overly confident Petruchio, who has come to Padua to find himself a wife with money.
