Dr. Kersti Kents moved to Muskoka in 2006 and began working full-time in the emergency department. A chance meeting in the ER, in 2009, resulted in a new addition to her career path – aesthetic medicine. After several years of training, Medical Aesthetics of Muskoka was established in 2013.
In 2017, Dr. Kents recognized a dire need for dermatologic medical support in Muskoka. She decided to pursue a postgraduate diploma in practical dermatology, and changed her scope of practice to include Skin Disorders. With 2 daughters under the age of 8, working full-time in the ER, twice a week at her aesthetics practice, bi-weekly at a medical spa in Barrie, as well as travelling out-of-region for multiple weeks to complete her dermatology supervision, it was no easy task. But the ability to grind through adversity and tough challenges is part of what makes an entrepreneur successful. With the support of her husband, family, colleagues and close friends, she was able to persevere and achieve her goals.
Having retired from Emergency Medicine in December 2020, Medical Aesthetics of Muskoka now operates 5 days a week, providing dermatologic care as well as aesthetic medicine treatments. Fostering a business culture that promotes open communication, Kersti attributes much of the clinic’s success to her team of hard-working, supportive and committed staff members.
