Welcome to the Be Moore Mindful podcast! Your hosts Carrolee Moore and Melanie Rice, entrepreneurs in their own right, serve as your guide to a deeper understanding of mindset - how to cultivate a positive growth mindset, how to fortify it and the tools needed to sustain it when things inevitably go wrong.

This is not a podcast about "doing." Each episode is meant to give you insight that will get you thinking, and hopefully implementing better habits that lead to a stronger mindset.

As entrepreneurs you are constantly being thrown curve balls. This podcast helps you gain perspective and glean the gems in the midst of the mess.

Carrolee and Melanie peel back that layer of gloss that is often put on the entrepreneurial journey, especially online.

Let's be clear, this podcast is not about trying to figure out your numbers for sales, or even about teaching you a particular skill, except how to tap into your mind so you get used to being. At the end of the day any entrepreneur is going to hit a bump, and your mindset is whats going to get you over that hump.

Strap on your seatbelt and hop in for this (at times intense, but totally worth it) ride!

05/08/24 • 51 min

In this first episode, our hosts Carrolee and Melanie discuss “Entrepreneurship and The Fall.” Answering the question, “What does it feel like, and what should you do, when you fall out of love with entrepreneurship?”

This is a host-only episode where the ladies have a tough heart to heart conversation about what happened in their business partnership and how they’ve picked up the pieces post split.

What do you do when life throws you curveballs? When the decisions you’ve made land you in a particularly prickly situation?

In business, especially in the beginning, we’re faced with many situations that test our mental fortitude. Do we blame others for our circumstances, or do we reflect inwardly to find the answer and move forward?

This clip is taken from a pretty transparent conversation between two ex-business partners who had yet to reflect on how the split impacted them individually.

Splitting up is not easy. But, what you do after the split will give you a clear idea of how fortified your mind is. It gives you clarity on how you see yourself and how you view the world.

This first episode is real, raw, and thoughtful. Dive in now!

Be Moore Mindful - Mindset and Networking

Mindset and Networking

Be Moore Mindful

What is networking? You know, besides the obvious exercise of talking to people, what is it REALLY?

In this episode of the Be Moore Mindful podcast our hosts Carrolee Moore and Melanie Rice are joined by the perfect guest for the topic of Mindset and Networking - Director of Recruiting and Coaching with VIP, Podcast Host of We Are VIP and CEO of Success North Dallas, the "networking ninja" herself, Casey Hasten.

Their discussion ends up answering some burning questions for new entrepreneurs - starting with "what is a network?" Hot tip: It's not everyone you have a business card for.

Casey gives us her definition and the foundation of how to enter the world of networking as a business owner with the right mindset. Casey gives us her top tips for being intentional when walking into a room full of strangers and how to be your authentic self even in business. Casey even admits her own flubs, which is encouraging for newbies who may be too nervous to be bold for fear of making a mistake.

Our hosts and Casey discuss those "gut" (some would call them morals) standards we should all have and how they will help you OWN every room you walk in.

The ladies bring up questions we all should be asking:

Questions like "how do you blend the "I need" aspect of networking with "radical" giving?"

"How do you ready your minds to walk into a room and be authentic even when you don't feel like you have value to add?"

"What are the top mistakes people make when first starting their networking journey as an entrepreneur?"

They also discuss a very key principle in networking and in life - ALWAYS BE NICE. At the core of the concept is that fact that you never know who you'll need in the future, and how your intentional kindness could lead to open doors where there may be no opportunity otherwise.

This episode boils down to, if you go into networking solely because you have a need, you're doing it the wrong way. Casey, Carrolee and Melanie are here to talk about how to avoid that and how to set your mind right to do it properly.

Have you been on a search to find your purpose?

In this episode of the Be Moore Mindul podcast, we tackle the ins and outs of a purpose-driven life and business. To delve deeper into the topic our hosts Carrolee and Melanie are joined by servant leader, empire builder and star of "Flip to a Million" HGTV, EJ William.

At the core of this episode is a deep dive into the concept of "purpose" - namely where it fits, if anywhere, in your entrepreneurial journey.

The trio shines a light and share their perspectives on the following questions:

  • What is my purpose?
  • What does purpose actually mean?
  • Does one seek purpose? If not, where does it come from?

EJ shares her definition of purpose and details how she found her own - connecting all the dots throughout her life that she later realized were all the while leading her to the life she currently lives.

Starting with childhood, the ladies tackle societal expectations and get real about the guilt and shame that comes with stepping away from traditional paths. They discuss the divinity in those outlying moments that don't always make sense right away and how scary it can be taking that first step and jumping into entrepreneurship.

This episode boils down to the central question after you take the leap into entrepreneurship - who am I? What am I meant to do while I'm alive? While you listen to this conversation, we encourage you to think about your answers to these important questions.

Be Moore Mindful - Mindset and The Leap

Mindset and The Leap

Be Moore Mindful

How do we know when it's time to take that leap?

The leap is the hardest step but also the most beautiful of the entrepreneurial journey. In this episode of the Be Moore Mindful podcast Carrolee Moore and Melanie Rice take us on their own personal journeys and what their leaps looked like.

They discuss the "right way" and the "wrong way" to leap and how most of the time if your mindset isn't fortified you will hit the ground. They share the time they've fallen and more importantly the times they got back up and leaped all over again. They talk about how yes, there are tools you can use, and preparations you can make but if your mindset isn't one of those tools or preparations, you will get stuck in survival mode.

Carrolee and Melanie bring up the great topic of grief that comes with starting your journey as an entrepreneur, there's a massive lifestyle change that comes with it, there's people you love and respect that may just see it as you leaving a safe and steady job to be unemployed, friends who don't really understand this new you and you now have to come to terms with all of this. So many people don't know that that feeling of loss is coming so it hits them like a ton of bricks.

They discuss that mentality a lot of us start out with, the hurry up and be successful so no one knows just how painful this is mentality. This podcast is meant to say stop trying to fake the funk, it's okay to not be okay, let's use what we know and strengthen our minds to build a better business because it's not going to happen over night but with the right mindset it will happen over time.

Melanie takes us through her leap in 2019 where she realized that when life was easy, she felt uneasy. The question "what are you waiting for" was asked and she jumped in, full bore, with a plan in place, a safety net and all the "right" tools.

Carrolee begins her story as a young girl living in Jamaica ready to take over the world, and as she grew up and went to college and started working, that mindset of "I can do this" quickly became seeing herself as what was on her resume, which at the time was temp jobs. Her leap didn't come until December of 2020 and she admits she hadn't really fully leaped, she just hopped with the hopes of leaping.

Spoiler Alert: Both of these approaches "failed".

Carrolee and Melanie discuss the power of their mindset shift and how that turned those times they hit the ground into opportunities. They end the conversation what can really be a life lesson even outside of business. You have to go inside to find it, if you can't dig deep and go inside to yourself, you'll always be searching. When you take the fear of "I can't do this" and replace it with "well why can't I do this" you see that internal shift that eventually leads to the leap of "I can and I'm gonna do it damn well".

Be Moore Mindful - Mindset and Emotional Well-being

What happens when you ask a room full of entrepreneurs what they're currently struggling with in their business?

In this episode of the Be Moore Mindful Podcast Carrolee and Melanie are joined by servant leader Terhea Jones where they discuss emotional and mental well being.

Terhea takes us on her personal journey to cultivating a strong mindset. Her riveting story will leave you in tears, but if you're listening close enough you'll catch the (many) gems that will undoubtedly help you in your own entrepreneurial journey.

This episode will hit you in the feels.

In this episode Carrolee and Melanie discuss with guest Terhea Jones how to take on the darkness and WIN. At the core they discuss the often scary places we're forced to go as entrepreneurs (lights being turned off, etc.) - and more importantly how we can squeeze as much "juice" aka the good stuff out of those moments while leaving the negative experiences in the rare view mirror.

If we're being real, sometimes it feels like the choice is between chopping off your arm or your leg - there is no comfortable choice.

This episode like stated before, will hit you in your feels. Nothing about entrepreneurship is black and white. This episode focuses on the grey that is seldom talked about. Hope you're ready!

Be Moore Mindful - Mindset and Advocacy

Mindset and Advocacy

Be Moore Mindful

play

09/06/23 • 38 min

What is advocacy and what does it have to do with business? We're about to tell you.

In this episode of the Be Moore Mindful podcast, co-hosts Carrolee Moore and Melanie Rice are joined by The Spirit of Frisco, Tammy Meinershagen who is the first ever Asain-American city council woman in Frisco, TX. Together they dive deep into the importance of advocacy, the mindset shift that happens when you become an advocate, the mindset of dealing with childhood issues that have driven you to advocate, and how all of that ties into business.

Tammy opens up about times in her childhood that shaped her desire to become an advocate, from being bullied in school for the way she spoke & feeling ashamed of that, to turning those moments into a mindset that no other kid should feel that way. Tammy created programs in her early career, like the Multi Cultural Minute that's still in place today, to help kids be proud of who they are, their cultures and bring awareness to those not familiar with those cultures. Programs that co-host Carrolee Moore voiced she wished she had growing up.

In the world of advocacy, it's not about the haves and have nots it's the do and do not. You either do it or you don't and it never happens and how mindset is key here. Being stuck in a mindset of I grew up a certain way so I could never start a successful business. Wrong. Sometimes, often times, it's not entirely about skill. It's just because you did it. In a world like today where a lot of things seem messed up, this episode covers the mindset of not getting bogged down by those things, but embracing them to change the world by doing what you can. Not letting the world make you feel like you can't.

One of the key concepts talked about in this episode is "Do it scared". Whether you're sure you're going to make it or not, do it scared. Tammy shares the times where she's done it scared and how it's worked out in her favor. If she hadn't done it scared, she may not be where she is today. In fact, neither would co-hosts Carrolee and Mel.

When something scares you, it doesn't mean its wrong, sometimes it means it's actually the one thing you're meant to do. And failure can be a part of that, co-hosts Carrolee and Melanie discuss with Tammy the idea of failing forward and how failure is a season, not permenance.

Now how does this tie into business and entreprenuership? The best businesses will do well and do good. Is the purpose of your business to make a lot of money? That's great but think beyond that. In this episode Carrolee, Melanie and Tammy discuss how advocating for something, using your resources to help the community can actually grow your business. When you're doing well and doing good, there's more opportunity for what you can do. Tammy explains that there's so much more you can do, if you do good with it and that's lasting, that's not just a business, it's a legacy.

Be Moore Mindful - Mindset and Manifestation
play

08/02/23 • 54 min

Manifestation. Whether you believe it's the best thing in the world or just a bunch juju, that's what Carrolee Moore and Melanie Rice are talking about in this episode with guest Scott Tennant who is a known philanthropist and CEO/Founder of Senergy Wellness Group

In this episode they discuss how manifestation is always giving or moving things forward, how it's an answer to a prayer. They discuss the difference between doing and being and how that goes towards how you live your life and the mindset that comes with it.

Scott addresses some questions we all should be asking ourselves. Questions like what are you listening to? Who are you getting your information from? Those questions, while not actively thought about in our daily lives are questions, especially when talking about our mindsets, we need to take a step back and really think about our answers.

Scott delves into the process of becoming the person you want to be. The answer? Essentially tapping into a deeper connection with self. What does your soul want? And how do you turn that into a business?

Carrolee brings up the great point that the words we use often create our future, which is where the conversation shifts to, in a three word summary, conceive, believe, receive.

Those three words are brought up throughout the episode and are discussed at length as to what they mean, not only in general but to guest Scott Tennant.

Scott and our hosts discuss the "breadcrumbs" of life and Scott takes the "breadcrumbs" metaphor and turns it into a question that will leave you really contemplating your whole life in the best way possible.
