IMPORTANT INFORMATION!
Don’t forget, we have our 2nd Annual Grip Strength Kettlebell Competition coming up on Sept. 15 at the Coast Bastion Inn in Nanaimo, British Columbia, Canada. Registration is on right now and open to al lifters. Sign up before Aug. 6 and you get your additional events free of charge - that’s $75 CDN plus GST for 1 or more events. Register within the Early Bird period and you also have the option of getting your event T-shirt for only $5 CDN, plus GST. I am also hosting a post comp BBQ at my residence in Nanaimo - tickets for that are $20. This year we are also modifying Snatch only to make it more interesting and potentially more competitive - perhaps we can get some people trying a bell weight heavier than they are used to, and give them that nudge to keep blowing forward with their progress. All of these options are available at www.gripstrength.ca/registration.

Our April In-House was a blast!
We were so happy to see new people take to the platform, and grateful for our friends from Victoria for making the trip to Nanaimo.
We had a total of 14 lifters who participated, and Rachel jumped in twice to fill out half empty flights, finishing the day with 5 sets of kettlebell!
Most lifters made rank numbers for at least one event, and following everyone's individual sets was a 4 Team Longcycle Relay. We had two mens and 2 womens teams, comprised of 3 members each, lifting 3 minutes each.
Overall Longcycle Relay Team Award went to Rod MacMillan, Matt O'Brien, and Jeff Bremer (Score: 113). And the Top Women's Team Award went to Netta Buczek, Pat Marshall, and Rachel Robertson (Score: 122).

In this episode we look back fondly on some clients whom we feel possess those qualities, attitudes, and behaviours we think are inspiring.
We deeply respect particularly those who have met with adversity, sometimes in devastating ways, and who chose to face it with courage, positivity, and the relentless pursuit of greatness.

BALLISTIC STRENGTH RADIO_EP. 26: PROGRESSIONS | KETTLEBELL SPORT
Ballistic Strength Radio - Kettlebell Sport Podcast
06/12/17 • 88 min
In this episode Charlie and I breakdown how we look at developing the traditional lifts outside of just performing the lifts themselves.
Can you improve your snatch by just performing the snatch? The short answer is yes. But can you maximize your potential? Not likely.
3:07 - Can you improve the snatch by just performing snatches?
4:07 - Putting in quality reps
5:10 - Knowing what good technique is, training without a coach, identify your own mistakes
8:59 - Fix your swing, fix your snatch, never bang your wrist again
11:30 - Compensatory, dysfunctional biomechanics
12:44 - Using wrist guards to get past growing pains
14:23 - The kettlebell rack "crunch", fundamental principle or style nuance?
20:32 - Know when to keep or drop a technique or drill
23:00 - Is there stylized breathing for kettlebell sport, and when do you teach that?
25:15 - The importance of breath
26:40 - The prevalence of flawed breathing
27:15 - Breath and balance are connected
29:45 - High pull progression for snatch development
31:40 - Choose the heavy bell: using natural feedback when teaching
33:40 - Snatching will improve your snatch before increasing arm strength, grip strength or endurance
35:35 - A swing is not a swing; narrow the focus of why and how you swing to improve your snatch; Rudnev insertion progression
37:09 - Re-engineering your snatch style; specificity of your drills; the Denisov rocking swing
41:35 - How I added 40 reps to my 24kg snatch
42:30 - Technique vs. Grip Strength for improving snatch numbers (see study below)
43:02 - Big technical changes vs. little nuanced fine tuning for increasing numbers; small changes can have the biggest impact
