WisDumb: "Your Attitude Not Your Aptitude Determines Your Altitude" (Or Does It?)
Bacon Wrapped Business With Brad Costanzo | Sizzling Hot Business Advice Guaranteed To Make You Fat...PROFITS!
08/29/18 • 7 min
Your attitude, not your aptitude will determine your altitude Ziegler.
If this is your first Wednesday WisDumb let me explain what we're doing here.
I am personally going after a lot of the various success quotes and platitudes, which is a can be a trite statement that doesn't really convey the truth and is oftentimes a lacking and I am poking holes in it. I'm playing devil's advocate.
And the sayings I'm going after, I'm not saying they're stupid, I'm not saying they're dumb, they are actually half wise, half dumb.
More importantly, they don't tell the whole story. And since social media is so inundated with people, myself included, sometimes sharing quotes and wisdom and thoughts and success platitudes that I thought it would be helpful to help shift your thinking on some of this stuff, and open it up, and at least make you think deeper.
So let's go back to this very famous quote by Zigler, "Your attitude, not your aptitude, will determine your altitude."
So what Zig is saying here is that, "Hey, man, it's just your attitude. It's not your, your skill set your aptitude is your your ability to perform will determine your altitude."
Now, I am a firm believer, that attitude is probably more important in the very beginning than aptitude in most cases. And it is very important that if you can find somebody who's got a winning attitude, and it's got a kind of a "go get them, I will be open, I will learn, I will figure it out" type attitude. That is one of the hardest things to learn. And it is one of the most valuable things that employer can have.
In fact, there was a an amazing book I read about the founding of Southwest Airlines, I think it was called Nuts!: Southwest Airlines' Crazy Recipe for Business and Personal Success, and it was it was really great. But South West Airlines has this entire philosophy in HR, which is hire for attitude, and train for, I guess, aptitude or train for the skill sets because they figure if we can find the right person, we can train them to do what we want.
However, this statement is woefully incomplete.
Because your attitude not your aptitude may determine your ability to get your foot in the door and figure it out. But you can't just go through life with you know, grinning a happy attitude, and not with any skill sets. Because it may get you in the door. It sure as hell isn't going to keep you in the door.
So here's my challenge to you.
Think about these two areas of your life. These two buckets, I don't care if you have to pull out a piece of paper and write this down. But look at your attitude and list out the things you believe with your attitude you're doing right. And then be brutally honest, and list out the things where your attitude could use an adjustment and optimization and think about it like are you sometimes being late? A little bit lazy, right? That's an attitude thing. Are you not doing some stuff that you should be doing? Are you taking the shortcut? are you complaining? Are you ever finding yourself in a victim mentality thinking, well, if somebody only gave me this, I'd be fine.
Or are you taking on this attitude that just give me something I am going to be resourceful. I will figure it out as I go. And a lot of times we show up like this.
But a lot of other times, we'll show up like this only occasionally. I am absolutely guilty of this as well.
But if you show up, ready to give your all and ready to figure it out, no matter what, especially when people are counting on you.
And that's really one of the most valuable things that you can do. Not only like, yes, as an employee, but as an entrepreneu, as a business partner. And if you're a consultant, if you have clients, that's what people want. They want somebody who's super resourceful and is going to go figure it out. In fact, I'm going to put a link to of previous podcast or an article called "A Message to Garcia." If you've never read a Message to Garcia, I am going to put a link to the video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p4pgzs2C8jk
And then challenge number 2, look at your Aptitude.
What are the skill sets you currently are working with? Where could you increase those, where can you add new aptitudes on there, and how can you help grow both of these areas, because one of the things you'll find out is, is as you grow your attitude and aptitude, your your confidence, your belief in yourself is naturally going to increase because not only are you going to have the skills you're gonna have the attitude to back it up to know that even if you don't have the skills, you're going to be able to get them and and succeed.
And then once your beliefs about yourself start to really coalesce and strengthen your entire identity is going to take on a new role. And at that point, there is going to be a cascade of a...

Reverse Engineering Success With Kent Clothier
Bacon Wrapped Business With Brad Costanzo | Sizzling Hot Business Advice Guaranteed To Make You Fat...PROFITS!
07/19/16 • 60 min
If you want to watch someone build a legacy in real time, simply pay attention to what Kent Clothier is doing in his life and with his business. Kent is the founder and CEO of Real Estate Worldwide (REWW), where he leads an amazing team of individuals that are focused on building disruptive systems, software and techniques that help real estate investors and professionals achieve astounding success in less time. In 2015, Kent became the only family to have FOUR businesses on the Inc 5000 List of Fastest Growing Companies.
And for the past 2.5 years I was proud to be a part of that growth, helping to direct the marketing strategies, campaigns and operations during a very high-growth period in his company.
Kent started off as a client of mine, became a friend, and then a business partner, but most importantly a valuable mentor in my life as well. I think of him as a "Friend-tor."
So in this episode, which has been 2 years too late, I wanted to dig in deeper and ask Kent questions that I might not already know the answer to and help pull out the advice he has for entrepreneurs, whether they are in real estate or any industry.
You'll hear how Kent started off in business in his early 20's trading groceries for a profit and built that business, and the business that acquired it, into a $2 billion a year industry-leader. This put millions of dollars into his pocket before he was 30 years old. And you'll hear how a bold but stupid move caused him to lose everything he had within a year only to rebuild his fortune bigger and better in the real estate industry, systematically dominating every market he entered using a principle called "Reverse Wholesaling" that he learned in the grocery business.
Most importantly, you'll hear Kent's unwavering focus on what's important in his life, maximizing every moment with his family and friends, very consciously designing his life the way he wants it and encouraging others to do to the same with his message that "The Time Is Now"
Here are some of the highlights from this episode:
- What is Real Estate wholesaling and how does it work?
- What is holding people back from success?
- The importance of mindset.
- Facing the reality of time. It is reckless and irresponsible to act like you have all the time in the world. You don’t.
- Fighting for your dream.
- Paying for your time. Mundane things, in business and in your personal life, need to be done. Paying someone for an hour of work is paying for an hour of your time to do whatever you need to do – spend time with family, exercising, relaxing, etc.
- Is it worth it to spend a large amount of money on something like a business coach or consultant?
- The benefits of a Visionary/Integrator relationship.
- Kent benefited from having a lot of mentors over the years. Do you have a mentor?
- Opportunities in Wholesaling and Real Estate.
You can contact Kent on Facebook, www.KentClothier.com or www.REWW.com.
Kent is also starting a podcast soon, so keep an eye out for it.

Getting Noticed In A Noisy World With Publicity Strategies That Really Work With Esther Kiss
Bacon Wrapped Business With Brad Costanzo | Sizzling Hot Business Advice Guaranteed To Make You Fat...PROFITS!

You may have the best product, service or advice in the world, but if nobody knows who you are, what you do or how you help them, you don't really have a business.
Advertising helps you get noticed, but it requires a significant investment (plus people tend to trust ads less and less these days).
That's where Publicity comes in and helps to "bring home the bacon" (Sorry, couldn't resist)
Publicity is a very wide field and is often times confusing. It rarely has a direct and measurable ROI (return on investment) and many business owners don't know how to do it correctly, thus they fail to use publicity at all.
That's why I asked renown publicity expert, Esther Kiss, to be on the show today and share her strategies and insights with you.
Esther Kiss is the producer and host of the popular podcast Born To Influence where she interviews highly successful entrepreneurs and NY Times bestselling authors about their marketing and PR strategies. She helps her clients integrate their publicity and marketing strategies so they enhance each other for tremendous growth.
Esther also helps entrepreneurs set up wildly successful "Podcast Publicity Tours" and has organized multiple bestselling book launches for her clients.
With that said, publicity is not for everyone. You and your business have to be ready for it if you want to get the best results. That's why Esther developed a fun quiz you can take for free to assess what you stand to gain and how to maximize your ROI on your publicity.

He's a brilliant businessman, deal-maker, business development specialist and one of my closest personal friends and confidants. That's why I invited Los on the show today to have an open discussion about the topics we talk most about so that you can benefit from what happens behind the scenes.
In Part 1
Starting off on a low note, we discuss what REALLY goes through the minds of entrepreneurs like us and many people we're close with.
Do you feel like your struggling, frustrated, in fear of failure of being found out as a fraud? You're not alone.
We'll tell you what we feel, what we do about it and show you that no matter how successful you are, you're not alone.
