Podcast Q&A

Why did you start this show?

Hi, I’m Lily. In 2018, I moved to Denmark, stepping into the unknown to start a new life abroad. Along the way, I’ve met amazing people with stories of building a life far from home. In this podcast, I share their inspiring, dramatic, and heartfelt journeys—stories of following dreams, overcoming challenges, and finding connections in new places. As someone who’s experienced the highs and lows of living abroad, I invite you to explore what it truly means to find a new home—and even yourself.

What do you hope listeners gain from listening to your show?

I hope listeners find the inspiration they need to take the leap and live abroad. Too often, we get caught up in "what ifs," fears, and doubts that hold us back. Through the stories of those who have dared to step into the unknown—their successes, challenges, highs, and lows—I want to show that anyone can do it. It’s not just about moving to a new place; it’s about discovering the world and uncovering new sides of yourself.

Which episode should someone start with?

If you’re looking for inspiration, start with the first episode featuring Alp. His fantastic perspective on life and traveling is sure to spark your sense of adventure. If you need a confidence boost or reassurance, begin with the second episode featuring Jana. She beautifully shares her love story with Denmark, offering a heartfelt and encouraging take on moving abroad. Both episodes set the tone for the podcast, showcasing the diversity and richness of these transformative journeys.

Which have been your favourite episodes so far?

I don’t have a single favorite episode because each story feels like a unique gem waiting to be uncovered. I don’t prepare the episodes beforehand, so I experience the stories alongside my listeners. Every conversation is a new discovery, and I’m constantly amazed and fascinated by the depth, courage, and humanity in people’s journeys. Each episode brings its own magic, making it impossible to choose just one as a favorite.

Which episode are you most proud of?

The episode I’m most proud of is still ahead of me! I’m just starting my podcast journey, learning to refine my recording and sound editing skills with every episode. It’s a process of growth and experimentation, but I’m confident that by the 5th episode, I’ll hit a stride where the storytelling, sound quality, and flow all come together. I see it as a turning point—the moment when I truly find my voice and deliver an episode that resonates deeply with my vision and my audience.

What is your vision for your show?

I started this show as the first step toward writing a book about the transformative journey of leaving one life behind to build a new one abroad. For the book, I want to gather real, deeply personal stories that reflect the universal truths behind these choices—the emotions, challenges, and triumphs that connect us all. Launching a podcast felt like a natural starting point, offering a space to share these stories in an authentic and immediate way while building a community.

What is your favourite other podcast that isn't yours?

Two standout podcasts I enjoy are *Beyond Bitchy: Mastering the Art of Boundaries* and *Histoire d’Argent*. *Beyond Bitchy* offers insightful discussions on boundaries and self-growth, empowering listeners to communicate clearly and live authentically. *Histoire d’Argent* dives into the complex relationship we have with money, blending personal stories with cultural and historical insights. I’d also recommend *How to Fail* for its honest take on learning from mistakes and *The Moth* for captivat

How did you come up with the name for your podcast?

The name *Away: Leaving Home, Finding Life* reflects the essence of the podcast. *Away* symbolizes the courage to step out of the familiar—to leave home, routines, and comfort behind. But it’s not just about what’s left; it’s about what’s gained. *Finding Life* highlights the growth, self-discovery, and connections that come with building a new life abroad. The name captures the bittersweet journey of leaving, reminding us that stepping into the unknown is a path to finding more.

Tell us a bit about yourself

I’m Lily, a French expat who moved to Denmark in 2018 to start a new chapter in life. Before becoming a mom, I traveled to about 25 countries, driven by a love for exploring the world and meeting new people. While life has evolved, my passion for discovery hasn’t faded. I started this podcast to share inspiring stories of courage and resilience from people who’ve left their comfort zones to build new lives abroad, and I’m excited to keep connecting with and learning from others.
