Asking for a Friend - Health, Fitness & Personal Growth Tips for Women in Midlife

Heart disease is the #1 cause of death in women, yet studies focused on women's cardiovascular health have been underfunded in the past. Dr. Odayme Quesada not only wanted to change that narrative with women-focused research, but also look at the unique circumstances that present when women experience a cardiovascular event. She is the director of The Christ Hospital Women's Heart Center, which is one of the few, dedicated centers in the world solely-focused on women's heart health.
When it comes to heart attacks, women ARE different than men! Do you know your risks and what symptoms to look for?
In this episode Dr. Quesada and I discuss:
-Traditional risk factors, pregnancy related risk factors and menopause
-Cholesterol and calcium facts
-The role of physical activity and diet
-Beyond BMI
-Post-Covid Syndrome
-Current women's heart studies and why women should be encouraged to participate

Ep.11 Your Most Beautiful Eyes

We are generally pretty good about getting to the dentist one to two times per year but what about our vision? I'd venture a guess that of all the senses we would least like to lose is our sight, yet our eyes don't always get the love they deserve.
Dr. Carly Rose is an expert in midlife eyes, where she has not only built an optometry practice around improving people's precious sight but also the successful treatment of dry eye. Dry eye disease (DED) is more prevalent as we age and women are more affected than men. DED should be taken seriously, as it can cause permanent eye damage and even vision loss.
In this episode Dr. Rose and I discuss:
-Dry eye symptoms and the diagnosis
-Treatment for dry eye - what you can do at home, pharmaceutical options, in-office procedures
-Midlife vision changes and your correction options
-Aesthetic options to improve the look of your peepers

What you can do now for your eye health - lash cleaner, moist heat, completely remove make-up each evening and a good Omega-3 supplement
