Let’s talk about language. Speaking English, Korean, Japanese, Mandarin and Cantonese
Asian Soup Podcast
05/12/22 • 60 min
In this episode, we dive into a discussion about LANGUAGE. Language is something so embedded in our everyday lives that we don’t even notice day to day how important it is for communicating with different people in our lives. Through conversation and sharing, we can learn more more about the similarities we have as first generation Asian Australians and explore how important language is to our culture, and our upbringing. Why is language so important? How has it shaped the way we see the world? What was it like to jump between English and Korean, Chinese, Japanese or Cantonese? Do you ever think or count in another language? Let us know what languages you speak, any challenges you’ve faced, what you’ve learned or anything you want to share in the comments, DM us, or email us.
No matter where you're tuning in from, we hope you enjoy another chatty episode of the Asian Soup Podcast.

Korean community, Chinese community, and Asian suburbs in Sydney
Asian Soup Podcast
06/13/24 • 47 min
Ever wondered what it's like growing up in Sydney's Asian communities? In this episode of the Asian Soup Podcast, we dive into our unique experiences. Jules shares her vivid memories of childhood in the Korean church community, reflecting on the close-knit bonds and traditions that shaped her upbringing. Meanwhile, Rox talks about growing up in a Korean suburb and the small (and sadly fading) Chinese Opera community that she is a part of through her mum's involvement in the Chinese Opera scene. Grab a bowl and join us for a casual and a little hearty chat about the diverse Asian communities in Sydney and our experiences and reflections from 30-something-year-old Asian Australians. Signs to quit your job
Asian Soup Podcast
11/27/22 • 46 min
With our fair share of work experience seeing the good and bad in different jobs, it’s time to spill the tea. And as thirty-something year olds who have both made career changes, we reflect on the signs that prompted the next move. What are those moments where we’ve realised, maybe it’s time to move on? Should I stay for longer in this role and see how it goes, or should I look elsewhere?
It’s not easy to make the call. And it is definitely scary to face change. As well as to those of you who might be thinking about resigning. However, we do want to point out that some of us are lucky and have worked hard to be in a position that allows us to thrive, working with a team that we love and enjoying the work that we do. And sometimes, it takes time to figure out what works for you. We’re grateful for all the opportunities we’ve had so far, while also excited to share what we’ve learned.
Let us know what other signs that may play a part in resigning in the comments or email us at [email protected]. Do you have any stories for us?
