I’m always asking questions. The fun begins when you start researching for answers. Such as... They aren’t just dreams, they come with other names, what are they? Plus...why do people argue with their computers? I’m Arroe... I am a daily writer. A silent wolf. I stand on the sidelines and do nothing but watch, listen study then activate. I call it The Daily Mess. A chronological walk through an everyday world. Yes, it’s my morning writing. As a receiver of thoughts and ideas, we as people tend to throw it to the side and deal with it later. When a subject arrives, I dig in. It’s still keeping a journal! By doing the research the picture becomes clearer. This is the Daily Mess...

Arroe Collins Like It's Live - Annie Gudger Releases The Book The 5th Chamber
play

09/30/23 • 10 min

I got it. Annie Gudger uttered those words when she had to do all the hard things, by herself, after her husband – the love of her life – died in an accident when she was six months pregnant with their first child. Now she must navigate the trials of single motherhood, mourning, and learning to love again. A mantra of sorts to family, friends, co-workers, neighbors...and mostly herself. ‘I got it’ helped her breathe, helped her get from here to there. Fascinated with the heart and its fifth chamber that holds more love, that holds shadows, Annie poetically chronicles her passage through grief and the beauty she found on the other side in her debut memoir, The Fifth Chamber (On sale: September 9, 2023; Jaded Ibis Press; paperback; ISBN: 9781938841217; $17.99). In 2022, about 60,000 children in the United States under the age of six lived with a single widowed mother, nearly three times the number of children living with a widowed father. Yet our society still shies away from open discussion about death and its aftermath, normalizing the tragedy and ignoring the pain. Crafted with lightning bolts of joy and sorrow, The Fifth Chamber is a tender and lyrical memoir about the dance of loss and life, and how grief can make the heart beat stronger than ever before. Annie and her daughter Maria Gibson have a podcast - Coffee, Grief, and Gratitude. For Annie, writing about love and loss has been her life’s work, publishing works in The Rumpus, Real Simple, Tupelo Quarterly, Atticus Review, Sweet Lit, Cutthroat, Cutbank, Columbia Journal, and many more.

Arroe Collins Like It's Live - Astronaut Dr Cady Coleman From The PBS Movie Space The Longest Goodbye
play

05/07/24 • 19 min

In the next decade, NASA intends to send astronauts to Mars for the first time. To succeed, crew members must overcome unprecedented life-threatening challenges. And while many of these hazards are physical, the most elusive are psychological. Throughout their three-year absence, crew members won't be able to communicate with Earth in real time due to the immense distance. The psychological impact of this level of disconnectedness and isolation-both from mission control and loved ones-is impossible to predict, endangering the mission itself. Directed to mitigate this threat is Dr. Al Holland, a NASA psychologist whose job is to keep astronauts mentally stable in space. Space: The Longest Goodbye follows Holland, rookie astronauts Kayla Barron and Matthias Maurer, and former astronaut Cady Coleman, among others, as they grapple with the tension between their dream of reaching new frontiers and their basic human need to stay connected to home. This conflict transcends space travel: how do humans balance the quest for progress with a deep connection to history and each other? SPACE: THE LONGEST GOODBYE debuts on PBS's Independent Lens on Monday, May 6th. Here's the trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=63KKJM4aOtE

Collecting around 50 original, in-depth interviews, Pledging My Time: Conversations with Bob Dylan Band Members (out June 27 on EWP Press) is the first look at Bob Dylan’s career entirely from the perspective of the musicians standing a few feet away from him on stage – from his earliest days in the ‘60s all the way through the 21st century Never Ending Tour. With a few exceptions, these artists are not household names, but they have in many cases spent years making music with one of the most revered and mysterious artists in the world.
The world of Dylan’s bands and his road life has seemed fairly impenetrable for decades now. Many people in this book have never spoken before about their time with Dylan, or certainly not in as much depth. Interviewees span every era of Dylan’s career, from Ramblin’ Jack Elliott and Martin Carthy talking about the early folk scene up through Benmont Tench and Alan Pasqua talking about recording Rough and Rowdy Ways. This guest list guiding the backstage tour also includes one-off sit-ins, behind- the-scenes touring personnel, and even a notable Grammy Awards stage-crasher.
If Dylan is, as he famously put it back in 1965, a “song and dance man,” these are the people who have sung and danced alongside him.
