Scientists and theologians alike have ideas about what the Genesis 1 creation story is supposed to teach, how to interacts with the knowledge of modern science, and its relevance or irrelevance to us today. In John Walton's book The Lost World of Adam and Eve we get a clearer picture of what the Genesis 1 Creation story was supposed to communicate to the early readers and what it means for us today. We discuss this book and see what Ancient Near Eastern context can teach us about this creation story.

Apologetics Simplified - In the Beginning God Created, But How? - Two Views
play

04/07/20 • 35 min

In this episode Leah and Andrew explore the arguments for Young Earth and Old Earth Creationism. First, they talk about the Hebrew term yom (English: day) and the theological significance of Adam. Then Leah tackles a few of the arguments from Old Earth Creationism including a vast usage of the word yom in the Old Testament, evidence from the fossil record and Cambrian Explosion, and astronomical evidence. Andrew tackles the arguments for Young Earth Creationism including yom being understood as a 24 hour period, understanding Genesis as literal history, the Global Flood as cause for the fossil record, and more. While Christians have disagreed about exactly how God created the earth, they agree that God created it. Despite this agreement and the many disagreements, Leah and Andrew believe that an exploration into scripture, theology, and science is a fruitful endeavour as it allows the explorer to learn more about the creation and the Creator Himself.

In this episode Leah and Andrew talk about Pauline theology as seen in The Mandalorian. The character IG-11 is compared to what it means to be a new person through salvation in Jesus Christ. IG-11 was once an assassin droid who was on a mission to kill the Child, but he was reprogrammed to nurture and care for the Child and others instead. Just as IG-11 changed completely from his reprogramming, so too people go through a spiritual reprogramming when we accept Jesus as our Savior.

The segment breaks feature a Star Wars and worship music mashup and Leah’s upcoming podcast coaching business.

Apologetics Simplified - Astrophysics 101: The Universe is Fine-Tuned for Life
play

02/16/21 • 50 min

For full show notes & information about the hosts www.leahchapman.org/podcasts/s5e19

In this episode Leah is joined by her guest co-host Greg Foster. They explore how the universe is fine tuned for life. They also deal with four common objections to the conclusion that fine tuning points to a Creator:

1. The multiverse theory does not need a Creator.

2.If the parameters of the world were different, human life would not exist, but other forms of life could still exist.

3. Earth is a fragile planet and is filled with organisms trying to kill us. Does that sound like God finely tuned it?

4. Fine-tuning only gets you as far as deism. It says nothing of the nature of that God.

We explore these objections and conclude that fine-tuning points to a distinctly personal creator.

In the segment breaks we talk about an odd Texas snow storm and how you can connect with us on Patreon.
