Apocalypse...Now? - Matt Braunsdorf and The Future of Cinema

Matt Braunsdorf and The Future of Cinema

Apocalypse...Now?

I miss going to the movies. I’m trying to remember the last movie I saw in theaters. (Uncut Gems?) It feels like a lifetime ago. I would love to go back, but I don’t feel safe sitting in a room with strangers for two hours. I’ll wear a mask–but how am I supposed to eat my popcorn? There are so many streaming content options, why bother spending $20 for a night of anxiety? I’m sure other people are thinking the same thing when it comes to movie night. Will going to the movies be a thing of the past, and as a filmmaker–should I be adapting to that reality?

I had to talk to my optimistic and talented friend, Matt Braunsdorf. Matt is a director, cinematographer, and editor with an undying love for the art form and the talent to create masterpieces of his own. I knew that I could spill my industry anxieties onto him–and he’d reassure me that movies are going to come back better than ever. I hope he’s right!

Lynsey Bonell Strives to Find Joy in Life

This week, I talk with yet another fantastic member of the Apocalypse Podcast Network, Lynsey Bonell. Lynsey is from the UK living in NYC and living her best quarantine life by trying to bring joy into this chaotic situation. Lynsey is one of the members of TRASH comedy and one of the hosts of their podcast, Hot Goss. I love this podcast, and you will too!

Lynsey and I talk about what it’s like living so far away from family during an international pandemic, volunteering, and practicing your tight five on the cats in your apartment. You’re going to adore this episode. I know I do!

Nancy Wolfe, Nuclear Weapons, and The Doomsday Clock

While you’re preoccupied with (or completely ignoring) coronavirus, I’m still worried about the other disasters we need to address once this pandemic is yesterday’s news. People seem to think that I’ll run out of material once a vaccine is in our veins–nay I say! I’m in the podcasting game for the long haul, and the world’s problems don’t just amount to viruses and elections.

Let’s face it; the world has a copious amount of problems. If this lockdown has taught us anything, it’s that we can’t ignore these issues anymore. This episode takes a look at the giant elephant in the room, nuclear energy. As of today, Sept 5, 2020, the Doomsday Clock is on 2-minutes to midnight, and let’s just say The Trump Administration isn’t shying away from nuclear weapon stockpiles.

On this episode, I enlist the help of my fellow female filmmaker, Nancy Wolfe, to help discuss this terrifying topic. Nancy has been working on the documentary Rocky Flats for four years. It’s a film that explores the invisible killer, and it unravels to some earth-shattering truths about America’s relationship with nuclear waste. You’re going to learn a lot of things you wish you didn’t.
