Americans Watching The Footy

It's a momentous occasion: our 100th episode! Amazing how quickly it's come along — we reflect on what these first 15 months of the show have meant to us and share some of our future plans. As always, though, the footy remains the main story. Marn Grook at the SCG has an extra level of desperation this year, with both combatants on the outside going in. Narrm and Walyalup highlight Saturday, with Geelong's midfield depth also bound to be thoroughly tested by the GIANTS. Then, we see our first NT game of the year between the Suns and Bulldogs! Sunday's first and last games carry a whole lot more oomph than the middle, with the Dimma-less Tigers hosting Port and the Crows and Lions ending the round on a high note. However, we would be remiss to not celebrate another 100 milestone for one Mason Cox! (And 300 for Steele Sidebottom.)

Who knew this number would be so important? In a weekend with some drama each day, the spectacle of the Sir Doug Nicholls Round combined with scintillating footy and a number of surprises in a loaded fixture. The Friday nighter and Dreamtime lived up to their billing and then some, more than making up for the one club that didn't show up at all this round. The episode ends with another real-time news reaction, with the bombshell of Damien Hardwick's resignation breaking as we wrapped up early Monday morning in California.

The Sir Doug Nicholls Rounds are here, and they have no shortage of juicy fixtures to make these couple weekends all the more special! Yartapuulti and Narrm will kick it off on Friday night, and it won’t slow down much from there. The Central Highlands will host a great clash, and Walyalup have rounded into form ahead of their clash with Geelong, before Saturday night concludes with QClash and a Dreamtime matchup with plenty of subtext. Carlton v Collingwood highlights Sunday’s fixtures, but there’s also the Harley Reid Cup! In addition to all that, learn about “bone overload,” “tacklees,” and which player probably has a voodoo doll in his likeness.

In a series full of out-of-pocket titles, this one may be our new clubhouse leader! Round 9 didn’t have much late drama, but it made up for that by answering many questions we’d had for multiple weeks. Count Freo’s forward alignment and the Dogs’ use of Rory Lobb among the resolved matters... as well as what “dacking” is, because multiple incidents caused us to learn that term this week!
