Advancing your career in 2024 with Stacy Mayer
Ambitious and Balanced Working Moms
01/22/24 • 47 min
What’s it going to take to get promoted and advance your career in 2024? I asked this question to executive coach and promotion strategist, Stacy Mayer, who explained that the first step to getting promoted is ownership. We need to decide, as women, what we want out of our career and what we are willing to do (and not do) to get it. In today’s episode, Stacy shares with us what it takes to own your advancing career, how to get exposure to your boss’s boss through strategic ally meetings and the #1 thing you can do, right now, to lay a foundation for a promotion by the end of the year.
Topics in this episode:
- What’s different about 2024, when it comes to getting promoted, then in past years?
- What is different about how men have traditionally been promoted vs. women today?
- Setting up ally meetings and what to say
- The importance of building trust and the 3 aspects of trust that are required to get promoted
- Do you need to shut down your emotions to get promoted?

Default Parent Resentment
Ambitious and Balanced Working Moms
05/13/24 • 31 min
In this week's episode of the podcast, I dive into the topic of being the "default parent"—the one who primarily manages our child's basic needs and household duties.
I explore the heavy mental and emotional load that comes with this role. Many working moms, including myself, often find ourselves as the default parent, not necessarily because of our partners, but due to our own choices and behaviors.
I share insights on how stepping back and redistributing household responsibilities can lead to a more balanced and fulfilling life, both professionally and personally. Working moms, this is one you’ll definitely want to tune into.
Topics in this episode:
- The concept of the "default parent" who primarily manages children's basic needs and household tasks.
- The mental and emotional load carried by the default parent.
- Reasons why working mothers often become the default parent beyond partner involvement.
- Strategies for relinquishing control and redistributing responsibilities within the household.
- The impact of these changes on achieving a balance between ambitious career goals and active parenting.

Have to vs want to (rebroadcast)
Ambitious and Balanced Working Moms
01/09/23 • 21 min
A balanced life is a life of WANT-to. It’s a life that feels purposeful, motivating, fun and even easy. An unbalanced life is a life of HAVE-to. It’s a life that feels hard, forceful, and exhausting. Two women might have a very similar life with similar responsibilities but one will feel balanced because everything in their life feels like a choice – like a WANT to and the other will feel imbalanced because they feel like they have no choice and they HAVE to do the things they are doing. In this episode we are going to talk about the difference between a want to and a have to life and then explore the process of moving from have to to want to. Ready? Let’s get to it...
Topics in this episode:
- A have to life feels forced vs. a want to life that feels chosen
- When you want to do something, it feels motivating
- Selecting activities with your kids that you want to do
- 3 steps to moving from a life of have-to’s to a life of want-to’s
- Shifting your thoughts so that the activities in life feel like something you want
