Scott Kaufman is like a wizard for the heart. He has a way of getting down to the nitty-gritty really quickly, and in a way that feels true, and approachable. As a coach, he offers practical and tangible tools that can be implemented immediately and shares authentically every time we connect. Which, lucky for me, is pretty often. I am so stoked to share his story and his wisdom with you today.

In today's episode, we dive deep into some of our psychedelic experiences, together and separately. He shares about his ego deaths that were utterly life-altering in every way imaginable. We talk about polarity, couple's work, and men's work. He coaches me on some old stories that I hadn't fully released, and so much more.

Let's get to it.

Today's episode is not the norm. New age spirituality, look out, because Chloe Elgar is a truth-teller and a seer. She is the one who sees with her eyes closed. She is the one who sees in the dark. What you see is not what you get. Behind her big eyes, welcoming smile and open heart lives unmistakable wisdom, cut-throat truth and raw intensity. She will not just tell you what you want to hear. Her work is rooted in cultivating a different relationship with darkness and intuition.

In today's episode we dive deep into:

Our relationship with darkness and why we must embrace it

Our intuition and how to access it

Our connection to the spirit world

Stillness and what can catch us when we arrive

What happens when we numb our gifts

Integrating every aspect of ourselves and why it's non negotiable

The tapestry of Chloe's life weaves in different spiritual aspects of the East and the West, thanks to a unique childhood growing up in Malaysia. A fierce believer in magic and ally to Mother Earth, Chloe surrounds herself with the wisdom and teachings of nature and the ancestors. Working with Chloe invites you to walk in the dark and to stop hiding from life. She works with people on claiming and developing their intuitive skills and strengthening their voice and expressions. Chloe works closely with the runes, ancestors, magic, animals, and nordic wisdom.

Chloe's book is out tomorrow! You can find it HERE

Dianne Bondy and I met years ago at a photo shoot for Gaiam. Their focus was to portray different body types, and people of color, and show the world that yoga (asana) isn't just for skinny white women, but indeed, for every body. It was about time, and frankly we still have a long way to go. Dianne Bondy is, as she calls it, an interrupter, and man is she good at it. She has so much insight and so much wisdom, and is not afraid to speak her truth (satya). You don't want to miss this one. Let's get to it.

We discuss:

  • Body image in the media, and yoga space
  • The intersection of social justice and spirituality
  • Why speaking your truth is so marvelously important
  • How healing and accountability go hand in hand
  • Why we need community now more than ever, and more...

Dianne Bondy is the founder of the Yoga For All movement, a body image advocate, body positivity and social equity warrior and believes in self-care, self-love and self-acceptance as a practice. Dianne Bondy is a social justice activist, author, accessible yoga teacher, and the leader of the Yoga For All movement. Her inclusive approach to yoga empowers anyone to practice—regardless of their shape, size, ethnicity, or level of ability. Dianne is revolutionizing yoga by educating yoga instructors around the world on how to make their classes welcoming for all kinds of practitioners.

Dianne is the author of the international best selling book, Yoga for Everyone (DK Publishing, Penguin Random House), co-author of Yoga Where Yoga Are (to be released in December 2020), and a frequent contributor to Yoga International, DoYou, Yoga Girl, and Omstars. She has been featured in publications such as The Guardian, Huffington Post, Cosmopolitan, and People.

Dianne’s commitment to increasing diversity in yoga has been recognized in her work with Pennington’s, Gaiam, and the Yoga & Body Image Coalition, as well as in speaking engagements at Princeton, Duke, University of Buffalo and UC Berkeley on Yoga, Race, and Diversity. Her writing is published in Yoga and Body Image Volume 1, Yoga Renegades, and Yes Yoga Has Curves. You can find Dianne online at diannebondyyoga.com, yogaforalltraining.com and yogaforeveryone.tv.

Solo Throwback Episode

Altared Podcast

play

06/23/21 • 42 min

Hey Savages, today is a solo episode that is a throwback to 2020. I hate that we have the tendency as a society to repeat old patterns so I'm hoping this one resonates and can keep us (myself included) aligned. I talk about self care, changing stories, community, communication, values and a few other pillars that I know I needed a refresher course on. Give it a listen and if you dug it, share it with you people! I would be so very grateful.

Hey, have you left us a review wherever you listen to this? If not, I would so appreciate it if you did. You see, the more reviews the more people listen and that creates a more loving planet, so do you part baby, do you part and leave a review today!

A note from Monica Loren...

I was born and raised in Los Angeles to Buddhist parents. This upbringing created a space for an open mind and heart from the beginning. I even took Kundalini yoga as my P.E. class in High School. Alternative thinking and the Healing Arts have been a normal part of my life from the start. I have always had a passion for deep transformation work and helping others connect to their heart and change their lives. I got into transformation and relationship coaching because I needed to take a deeper look at all the pain and trauma I experienced as a child. My father was a severe alcoholic who was either living on the streets or in a sober living home my entire childhood. This created deep wounding for me. I attracted all kinds of chaos and dysfunctional relationships because I believed I was not worthy of love. This was rooted in my father not showing up for me and being highly toxic.

In 2008, I finally hit breaking point with all the chaos (I numbed myself with partying, alcohol and toxic codependent relationships) I was experiencing and went back to Kundalini Yoga. After having a profound emotion release experience in my Kundalini Yoga Training program, I knew there was a deep connection between pains, patterns, relationships and trauma/pain/emotions in the body. The day I graduated Kundalini Yoga, I enrolled in an Energy / Trauma Healing School and never looked back. I began my Transformation practice in 2009 and have been helping others heal their childhood pain and trauma ever since I’m no stranger to pain, suffering, depression, fear, and anxiety. I spent most of my life struggling with addictions, and my own journey of healing and transformation has been anything but smooth. But I can tell you, I know from my own experience that there is a greater opportunity in life. An opportunity to find a true, authentic, grounded state of peace and happiness that isn’t dependent on success or failure or how many possessions we can acquire. Having gone through my own personal journey of healing and transformation, I find nothing more rewarding than to see people transform in front of my eyes, to watch years of conditioning, trauma, and pain melt away. I’ve found that we all do truly have a unique gift, a talent that serves and uplifts those around us.

My own gift lies in an ability to be present and listen and feel each person in a way that allows the true being underneath all the stories to show itself. I am also a Certified Conversational Hypnotherapy Practitioner from the Sussex Hypnotherapy Center. I have studied from acclaimed coaching schools like Coaching Training Institute and The School of Coaching Mastery along with certifications in Relationship Coaching from Udemy. I have studied David Deida, John Wineland and metaphysics and eastern philosophy/health and wellness since my early youth. I have studied with Non-Dual (Advaita) teachers such as Francis Lucille and Wayne Liquorman. My influences are from the works of Byron Katie, Marianne Williamson, Abraham-Hicks and Eckhart Tolle to name a few. My work and passion in life is to be of service and to listen deeply to the needs of my clients. I come into each session with the purest intent to allow the most potent transmission to be channeled for each beautiful soul that is called to work with me.

PS. You know what would be so dope? If you left us a 5 star review wherever you listen.

Did you dig this episode? Oh good. Will you share it with your people?

I would be over the moon with gratitude. X

Creating a Life You Don't Need to Escape from

with Dr. Adi Jaffe

Today's episode goes deep on...Addiction Why abstinence isn't always the answer Eating disorder recovery Relationships / Marriage Infidelity What we can do as addicts who want to recover

Actionable steps we can take right now

and more...

The opposite of addiction isn't sobriety. The opposite of addiction is connection. Today's episode is a doozy for anyone who has dealt with addiction themselves or like so many of us, know someone who is struggling. Adi Jaffe, Ph.D. is a #1 best-selling author (The Abstinence Myth) and a nationally recognized expert on mental health, addiction, relationships and shame. He lectured in the UCLA Psychology department for the better part of a decade and was the Executive-Director and Co-Founder of one of the most progressive mental health treatment facilities in the country - until he started IGNTD.

Dr. Jaffe, through IGNTD, is changing the way people think about, and deal with mental health issues. His passion in the role of shame destroying lives is the philosophy behind IGNTD Recovery and its aim to greatly reduce the stigma of addiction and mental health.

Dr. Jaffe attended UCLA, graduating with a B.A. in psychology. It was during his undergraduate career that Adi began struggling with drug issues himself, eventually leading to a 4 year hiatus from studies and into the Los Angeles drug-dealing world where he became quite successful. During that period of his life, Adi's days looked more like a re-enactment of a beatnik novel or a Quentin Tarantino film than the life of an upper-middle class suburban kid. Following a SWAT team arrest in his apartment, and extended court case and a year-long jail sentence, Adi began rebuilding his life. This eventually led to his attainment of a Ph.D. from UCLA's top-rated doctoral program in psychology, where he graduated with honors. Even before he graduated Dr. Jaffe’s name had become known through his online and academic writing. His views on addiction and his research on the topic have been published in dozens of journals and online publications and he has appeared on numerous television shows and documentaries discussing current topics in addiction and the problem of addiction as a whole.

Dr. Jaffe now writes a blog on Psychology Today, and several other online and print sources. His goal is to bring the latest knowledge about addiction to the people who could benefit from it most – those who are suffering because of it. His writing combines personal experience with a decade’s worth of fine-detail research regarding the mechanisms involved in the addictive process. Dr. Jaffe has been featured in CNN, The Huffington Post, Bustle, Los Angeles Times, KTLA.

CREDENTIALS AND EXPERIENCE

Dr. Adi Jaffe holds a Ph.D. in psychology from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). He teaches courses at UCLA that address addiction specifically, research statistics or biological psychology and behavioral neuroscience more generally. Well-known for his online and academic writing, Dr. Jaffe’s views on addiction and his research on the topic have been published widely in both academic journals and popular magazines and websites. He has appeared on several television shows including Good Morning America, The Dr. Oz Show, The Doctors and Larry King Now and in numerous documentaries discussing current topics in addiction. He has also been the guest on notable podcasts including Getting Curious with Jonathan Van Ness, Almost Thirty, Dr. Drew, Cleaning Up the Mental Mess with Dr. Caroline Leaf and many more.
