James Mwenda joins the podcast to tell us about conservation and our role as tourists in protecting endangered species and our planet. A Quick Update!
Alpaca My Bags: Responsible Travel Podcast
03/29/20 • 2 min
We wanted to quickly check in with you and let you know how things are going during these wild times - what's happening with production, and what you can expect in the future.
We'll give you a mental picture though of our current states in the meantime:
Erin has been binge watching Trailer Park Boys and going up and down her staircase every day for "excercise". She's been snuggling her cats 24/7 and is now realizing the value of animal therapy. She's wondering if now's the right time to adopt another cat?
Kattie has been googling "top sweatpants", anticipating her next meal and still making podcasts, but from home. She hasn't been able to bring herself to do any excersise despite the encouragement all over social media and the flexible schedule, so please reach out to her to make sure she hasn't officially become a couch.

REPOST: Travel Through The Lens of a Black, Trans Woman with Miss Peppermint
Alpaca My Bags: Responsible Travel Podcast
06/09/20 • 41 min
According to a US transgender survey from 2015, nearly half of those who flew in 2014 experienced problems relating to being transgender. In this episode, Erin is joined by the amazing Peppermint, a trans black woman to discuss further (you might also recognize her as the runner up from season 9 of RuPauls Drag Race!).
Peppermint, who joined us remotely from a cab in New York, talks about her experiences traveling and touring from a “identity-first” framework, and to share with us the challenges she faces. From airport security around the world, to passing privilege and pretty privilege, Peppermint breaks down how her identity as not only a trans women, but also a black women, effects her experience of travel through a world that is still very gendered.

S2 Ep36: Travel "Back in the Day" and Exploring Soviet Russia
Alpaca My Bags: Responsible Travel Podcast
01/08/20 • 48 min
Just 20 years ago, for example, travelers didn't have Google Maps to guide them, or social media to keep them connected to family and friends at home.
Join Erin as she chats with a fellow solo woman traveler, Valika Kunkel. Valika tells the story of how she boarded her first transatlantic flight in the early 60s at age 13 - completely alone. She shares her experiences from traveling by car through Soviet Russia to connecting with other travelers on trains, without the help of social media!

S2 Ep37: Surf Camps and Oppression Lasagna
Alpaca My Bags: Responsible Travel Podcast
01/22/20 • 48 min
The story of surfing and empowerment extends beyond the surf retreats that have become popular for North American women - in other parts of the world, surfing has become an expression of opposition to patriarchy. Women are using surfing to prove that they are every bit as capable and badass as the men that have dominated the sport, and we see these examples in world class, female surfers like Sabah Adu Ghanim in Gaza, Meryem El Gardoum in Morocco, and Ishita Malaviya
