Desperation lands Olivia in the lap of the recruiting director for Rockville Softworks, who has been on the hunt for lost souls like her to fill the dangerous and enticing roll of beta player for an unstable game world: Austentopia. When her fellow players start vanishing, Olivia must navigate the virtual landscape in search of the cause of the disappearances.
But will she find the kidnapper before the kidnapper finds her?

Olivia has accepted the beta player position at Rockville Softworks for her brother's sake, but she's hesitant about following through, especially after the beta player orientation reveals an unexpected and unwelcome member of her gaming party. Olivia debates her options, falling down a research rabbit hole and exploring Allworld Online using her brother's VR headset, until, finally, she makes her decision.
Previously on Allworld Online:
Olivia Crawford, a recently laid-off teacher, moved back into her family home with her parents and four siblings. She landed a job at a bookstore and enjoyed the care-free lifestyle for a time, but soon felt the pull to do more with her life. She applied for a position teaching at Rockville Softworks’ virtual academy, Rockville High, and nailed the interview, leaving with not one, but two job offers: one for a position as a virtual teacher, and one for a position as a prestigious beta player. She leaned toward the teaching position...until William St. George, a big wig at Rockville Sofworks, showed up at her home to make an offer she couldn’t refuse.
