:: What mushrooms and mycelium can teach you about connection and renewal.

TIMELESS //'How to Reimagine Power and Presence in Search of the Sacred' with Sophie Strand and Bayo Akomolafe
all that we are with amisha tala oak (fka the future is beautiful)
11/14/24 • 18 min
In this TIMELESS episode we hear from Sophie Strand and Bayo Akomolafe. Together, we explore how the sacred is less about certainty and mastery and more about dwelling in the unknown, the disruptive, and the in-between. As we open ourselves to this journey, we consider how unlearning and openness might guide us toward a deeper, more grounded sense of the sacred—one that emerges in moments of humility, fragility, and genuine encounter.
“And I was thinking that, at least in my own situated experience, my approach to the sacred would be to flip the paradigm and to ask, what if the sacred researches you?” Sophie Strand
As a writer, Sophie focuses on the intersection of spirituality, storytelling, and ecology. She believes strongly that all thinking happens interstitially between beings, ideas, differences, and mythical gradients. Bayo is a poet, philosopher, psychologist, professor, and chief-curator of the Emergence Network. He curates this earth-wide project for the re-calibration of our ability to respond to civilisational crisis.
We hope this TIMELESS episode invites you to pause and reflect on the sacred in new and unexpected ways.

Alan Clements on Meditation, Sacred Activism and Intimacy - E53
all that we are with amisha tala oak (fka the future is beautiful)
06/20/19 • 89 min
How can we change the world by changing our consciousness?
In this episode entitled Oxygenating Beautiful States of Mind, Amisha meets author, investigative journalist and teacher of meditation Alan Clements. Together they explore the nature of meditation, consciousness, beauty and activism.
Alan shares the story of his enquiry into the influence of consciousness on consciousness itself, including what inspired him to study “the elements of consciousness that enhance its frequency, luminosity, liberty and enlightenment.” We hear about the shift from external exploration - through psychedelics, entheogens, diet and yoga - toward an internal exploration, which led Alan to Burma, to the Mahasi Meditation Centre, and his teacher there.
After studying mindfulness meditation in a Burmese monastery for over 20 years, Alan returned to the world of laypeople and now spends his days writing, running retreats and teaching what he has learned to others. He and Amisha speak about the challenges of studying meditation outside the controlled environment of a monastery, and how we can practise mindful intelligence as a way of being in everyday life.
Alan shares his beliefs about how monogamous commitment is the way of the future for loving relationships, and why abandoning polyamory allows us to reach greater states of freedom together than we can alone. He tells how - by holding the highest integrity of presence in every moment and encounter - we can each change the world right here, right now and one person at a time.
“The most important act of activism today is to be in emotional integrity in the most heightened way - where you are, with whom you’re with - and let that be the evidence, should you die, of the greatest gift you gave to the future of life.” ~ Alan Clements

We Are Nature - E142
all that we are with amisha tala oak (fka the future is beautiful)
06/24/21 • 104 min
How do we harmonise the complexities of being human whilst honouring ourselves as beautiful beings of nature?
This episode is part of our collaboration with ‘Noisily Festival - Mind, Body and Soul’, where we explore the theme ‘We Are Nature’. This LIVE panel took place on 12th June 2021 as part of the Avebury pilgrimage.
In this episode entitled Transforming Our Living Story, Amisha shares a conversation with Charlotte Pulver (E124), a modern day alchemist, Chris Park (E141), an active member of the order of ‘Bards, Ovates & Druids’, prolific beekeeper, enthusiastic storyteller and folklore wisdom keeper, Jimena Paratcha (E140) mother, community leader, conscious entrepreneur and horsewoman with 20 years of working in the social justice sector and Bruce Parry (E5) explorer, documentary filmmaker, author and indigenous rights supporter.
Together they embarked on a beautiful pilgrimage in Avebury exploring how we can recognise ourselves as beings of nature and harmonise the complexities of being human by reconnecting with nature’s essence, its rhythms and wisdom.
They share their insights into reasons why we have become disconnected from nature and the impacts this has on our humanness, cultures, communities, and on nature itself. We hear how we can honour our collective sense of grief and trauma that is offering the opportunity for us to find new ways to reconnect back to our land and our heritage. They reveal profound personal experiences and teachings from different cultures that have broadened their understanding of nature and inspired personal practices of connecting to their inner universe and their surroundings more empathetically.
They explore how we can form ceremonial rituals and ways of life that awaken and ground our Youths in a sense of being that instills a knowing that we are part of something greater than ourselves.
We learn that pilgrimages afford us spaces where we can step into meaningful, spiritual, liminal experiences where magic happens, where we can be inspired and marvel at the world and open ourselves up to receive the medicines of nature’s abundant gardens for restoration, transformation and belonging.
