Bonus Episode - The King Saves Uhura
All Over the Place with Dara Starr Tucker
07/19/23 • 9 min
You may know about the kiss shared between actress Nichelle Nichols and William Shatner -- what's widely thought of as the first interracial kiss on American television, but you may not know the deeper story of the hostility Nichols had to endure behind the scenes, and how close she came to walking away from the show altogether -- a decision that was curtailed by a very influential voice.

Jessica Aiwuyor and I discuss the ways misinformation and disinformation has infiltrated Black online spaces, and where the mis- and disinformation might be coming from.
This episode works as a great companion piece to the last episode of the podcast where I talked to Dr. Dan McClellan about the Khazar Theory, which has been adopted by a contemporary sect of Hebrew Israelites.

EP 40 | Affirmative Action with Qasim Rashid
All Over the Place with Dara Starr Tucker
05/06/24 • 39 min
For the month of May, we’re delving into some deep-dive discussions with a couple of my favorite mutual creators — first up is human rights lawyer, Qasim Rashid. In this episode, we’re talking over the recent decision by the conservative Supreme Court to do away with race-based affirmative action. Since anti-affirmative action activist Edward Blum used a group of Asian students as his battering ram to take down affirmative action, Qasim and I speak to the issue of alleged anti-Asian discrimination at elite universities, and how this accusation led to a Supreme Court victory against affirmative action, when an earlier bid with a white student had failed to deliver the success Blum wanted.
Join us next week for a round-up on the issue of voting rights with Qasim.

EP 69 | President Musk?
All Over the Place with Dara Starr Tucker
12/23/24 • 34 min
Elon Musk has long been celebrated as a tech visionary and entrepreneur, but his recent foray into American politics is raising serious questions—and red flags. With his growing influence over President-Elect Donald Trump and ensuing cabinet position, the stakes couldn’t be higher.
In this episode, we take a hard look at:
Musk’s background and the evolution of his public persona.
The burgeoning White Supremacist philosophies emerging in his rhetoric and behavior.
The potential dangers of his ideologies taking root in the highest levels of government.
As Musk positions himself as a political power broker, we explore the implications for democracy, civil rights, and America’s future. Could this signal the start of a darker chapter in the nation’s history?

Maybe you know the story of how Lucy & Desi gave Captain Kirk and the Twilight Zone their start. But there's probably a lot more to the story than you realized.
Lucille Ball was not only a pioneer in comedy, but she was also the first woman to head a major studio in Hollywood. Hear the full story of how she launched two of the most iconic shows of all time.

EP 38 | Must We Root for "Everybody Black?"
All Over the Place with Dara Starr Tucker
04/22/24 • 29 min
“I’m Rooting for Everybody Black” has become a bit of a rallying cry to indicate our unwavering support for Black creatives, entrepreneurs, techies — anybody that’s repping Black excellence. But the expectation that “Everybody Black” deserves our support can also be an errant one.
The death of OJ Simpson brings this topic into greater focus, and it’s worth taking another look at this age-old question in light of what his ascent and downfall meant to the Black community.
Are we required to lend our unquestioned support to Black folks simply because they’re “our” people? When is it okay to withdraw our support from Black folks that we deem problematic, and why is this so hard to talk about?

EP 44 | Deconstructing While Black with Garrison Hayes
All Over the Place with Dara Starr Tucker
06/17/24 • 30 min
In part 3 of this sweeping conversation with filmmaker, journalist and video essayist Garrison Hayes, we discuss the practical aspects of deconstructing while Black. What are the implications within your community, family and friends’ circle? How does being the child of a minister impact this process?
Deconstruction from religious fundamentalism is not an easy process, but the added factor of parsing through racial dynamics infuses the experience with much more complexity and can often leave you with more questions than answers.
