Alcohol Freedom Finders - Adam blows the whistle on Big Alcohol - Episode 3
play

10/26/24 • 33 min

After a career in advertising for big alcohol, our guest, Adam Murphy, blows the whistle on his former employers, comparing their methods for selling a known cancer causing agent to those of big tobacco. He describes how governments are powerless because they're also invested in the success of our alcohol companies.
They sell a product they know kills consumers and we, the consumers are auto enrolled into a drinking culture that often feels inescapable. We'll also hear how Adam escaped his work with big alcohol and found alcohol freedom for himself.

Alcohol Freedom Finders - Ayshea's unexpected Dry January success! Episode 8
play

12/20/24 • 30 min

In this episode, we catch up with Ayshea, an alumni of our first Alcohol Freedom Finders 30 day program. Aisha is a fantastic advert for our program's potential, because like so many people before she gave it a go She had never even considered a life without alcohol.
Drinking had been part of her life for years and felt central to her friendships and had never been problematic. She just thought a Dry January supporting her friend Justine's new venture would be a fun chance to challenge herself to see if she could go 30 days without booze. But as the month went on, She found that what she was learning was changing how she felt about alcohol altogether.
And by the end of the month, her desire to drink again was all but gone. Now a year on, she's alcohol free and happier than ever. She calls it magic. We call it freedom!

In this episode, you'll meet Martha, whose life as an on call midwife kept her drinking under control. But when she retired, those guardrails evaporated. And when COVID lockdown hit, like so many other people, she found herself drinking more than she'd ever wanted to. Fed up with the cycle of frustration and shame, her journey to alcohol freedom began with an Instagram post about the science led, compassionate approach of the This Naked Mind methodology, in which Justine and I are both certified coaches.
It was the promise that her situation wasn't her fault that gave her the courage to sign up to a coaching programme that would change the trajectory of her life forever

In this episode, we talk to Amanda Foster from Zero Fierce, a digital marketing expert who's also a fellow This Naked Mind alcohol freedom coach, like Justine and myself.
As you'll hear, Amanda is also an expert in grief and has written a fantastic book called Spirits and Sorrow that brilliantly and autobiographically takes our culture's understandable instinct to numb grief with alcohol and compares it to the alternative of facing grief alcohol free and processing the pain and sorrow instead of trying to forget that it's there. Amanda has tried both approaches and is very clear on which one works best.
She's so sweet and bubbly, you'd think she'd led a charmed life, untouched by any kind of hardship. But that couldn't be further from the truth. I can't wait for you all to meet this gentle warrior.

In this episode, we talk to our friend Michelle, whose entire social life revolved around alcohol, which I think most of us can relate to. So, when she decided to make a change, she didn't know how to tell her friends, or even her close family. She was wracked with shame, and petrified of what people might think.
Severe judgment of ourselves and underestimating the kindness and forgiveness and love of those around us seems to be hardwired into most of us. But Michelle's story will inspire you to lean into that discomfort and find genuine freedom on the other side.

In this episode, we meet with Mark Wong, the founder of the Impossibrew Alcohol Free Brewing Company, who you may recognize from his appearance on Dragon's Den. , after hearing he had a liver condition that meant he could no longer drink alcohol, this beer loving Durham University philosophy student was so unimpressed with the lack of buzz he got from the alcohol free beers on the market that he set out to create his own alcohol alternative.
With the help of a professor from the University's Bioscience Department, and inspired by a trip to Hong Kong, where he dove into the rich culture of Asian medicine, mark has found ingredients that he says give his alcohol free beers the buzz and relaxation we associate with what he amusingly calls the legacy beer category

In this episode, we meet with Jessie from Boston, a trained sommelier and hard liquor aficionado who describes her family as having many generations of alcohol dependence. We'll hear how she herself has had to come to terms with both ADHD and autism, as well as childhood trauma.
That trauma was triggered again during the COVID pandemic, where her alcohol use came to a head. Working 14 hour days in an essential service was tough enough, but being locked down also brought back the trauma of being trapped as a child. Jessie describes herself as a rebel down to the core of her being, and so the strict rules of AA weren't for her.
And in fact, it was a podcast that started her journey to finding alcohol freedom!
