al Frisco, a regularly updated hour-long podcast, rekindles the immediacy of Herb Caen’s “three-dot journalism” by reporting on the news and societal happenings of the day, directly to listeners, in a fresh and entertaining manner. Co-hosted by three longtime San Francisco residents and cultural arbiters: Kevin Hunsanger, Meaghan Mitchell and (Broke Ass) Stuart Schuffman (and with Marke Bieschke on nightlife), al Frisco will provide a ringside seat at the rapidly changing landscape of one of the world’s great cities before, during, and after the impact of COVID-19. Casting an attentive eye on neighborhood small-businesses, and with a particular focus on the whiplash openings and closings within a beloved restaurant / nightlife scene, al Frisco will be an up-to-the-minute celebration of what’s hip and wow and here and now, while also utilizing a deep knowledge of history to contextualize and contemporize the City’s myriad cycles of change. Interview segments with creators, influencers, and civic leaders will offer unique insight into the rebuilding process. al Frisco will take full advantage of ancillary technologies; webhosted galleries will provide visual accompaniments to podcasts and features; curated reading lists and partnerships with independent booksellers should help fill nightstands. Our regularly updated event calendar, unique GPS-enabled walking tours, and dine-out restaurant reviews with suggested picnic locations should also help motivate off-the-couch urban explorations.
