In this special episode of EXIT the drinking life, I talk with Pam Price, who has found her own EXIT out of the drinking life and has transformed her life into living purposefully as an alcohol coach and yoga instructor. We discuss how your mindset is tricking you into believing it’s impossible to let go of alcohol and what you can do to change that.

Some of the topics we cover are:

  • Pam’s journey to transforming her life
  • Losing the word “forever” in your vocabulary
  • Accepting that failure is a part of the process
  • Reframing your mindset to transform your life

Together, we talk about Pam’s key “oxygen mask tactics” she used to help her finally leave the drinking life behind. It truly does feel impossible to get out when you’re stuck in that cycle. But, we’re here to help shed light and hope that it is possible for you to change.

Aging Flipped with Debi Talbert - Necessary Darkness

Necessary Darkness

Aging Flipped with Debi Talbert

play

03/16/20 • 23 min

In this episode, we'll dive deep into the idea of necessary darkness and crossing the river of misery. We're going to be uncomfortable on this journey of life and transforming our relationship with alcohol, no matter what we do.
We get to choose whether we want the discomfort of staying the same, or the discomfort of transformation.

What You’ll Learn from this Episode:

  • The one skill that we need to exit the drinking life.
  • Why drinking less is simple, but not easy.
  • How our thinking about the process gets us into trouble when things get difficult.
  • What the river of misery is and what's on the other side of it.
  • Why we need to choose between the misery of now and the misery of growth.

The poem referenced in the Episode
To love ourselves long-term is to attend a thousand funerals of the person we used to be. The person we are too exhausted to be any longer. The person we don’t recognize inside ourselves anymore. The person we grew out of. The person we never ended up growing into. We so badly want ourselves to get our spark back when it burns out, to become speedily found when we are lost. But it is not our job to hold ourselves accountable to the person we used to be. It’s our job to travel between each version and to honor what emerges along the way. Sometimes it will be an even more luminescent flame. Sometimes it will be a flicker that disappears and temporarily floods the room with a perfect and necessary darkness.

When it comes to the impact alcohol has on our beautifully working human brains, there isn't a great deal of education. However what I've found work with my clients is this type of awareness brings them hope. A belief into the work of possibility for themselves. This simple shift helps them ease up on their internal shame and blame.

In today episode:

  • Discover what's really happening after the 1st 20 minutes
  • Why you feel this pull to consume more
  • What to do to help you achieve what you are truly seeking

How coaching helped me: Hey there I’m Debi Talbert I’m so excited you are considering joining EXIT & Beyond Membership. I want to mention I’ve always had this passion for personal growth and development. I loved the things I was learning. The processes and applying them to my life, yet I found myself with this gap of how I wanted to live, yet not being able to do it consistently. Then I found Life Coaching and everything shifted. Coaching really closed the gap for me. The tools and processes helped me end my turbulent relationship with alcohol, find freedom, discover a joy for life I never that would be possible for me and help others do the same in their lives. My fellow flight attendant’s sitting next to me on the Jumpseat became some of my first clients. This is how I came up with my business name and the name for methodology.

My goal is to help you make alcohol a small and irrelevant part of your life. To discover more joy and happiness in life and your relationships. To have the tools and self confidence to navigate the salty parts of life while feeling empowered and capable. To openly experience all of your emotions. To relish the sweet parts of life. And to savior your entire experience of life.

If that sounds like something you want, I’d love to have you join. You’ll find all the details below. If you want all the tings I described but would rather have a private experience, then click the Start The Conversation button to book a Zoom chat with me.

Aging Flipped with Debi Talbert - The Key to Redefining Your Relationship with Alcohol
play

09/06/21 • 19 min

On this episode of Exit The Drinking Life Podcast, I’m questioning what you view as your drinking identity and whether it’s currently serving you. While many of us realize that we want alcohol to stop being so important to us, we fail to realize that the current drinking identity we harbor keeps us from attaining the freedom we desire.

Some of the topics and questions raised in this episode are:

  • How does focusing on where you don’t want to be, rather than where you do want to be, impact the way you see yourself and approach your goals?
  • Is taking your current identity into the future with you sabotaging your success?
  • Recognizing the cycle of experimenting, acting out, igniting curiosity, and trusting yourself to achieve the ultimate goal: the exit.
  • The importance of naming your current alcohol identity and questioning if you want to keep it.

I hope that this episode motivated you to really examine what your current drinking identity is and whether it’s something that can help prompt the permanent transformation that you seek. I believe that significant life changes come from applying the lessons you learn and discovering your own self-image, as you journey through your metamorphosis.
