Police say 16,000 people – mainly women and children – were kidnapped in South Africa between June 2023 and June 2024, almost double the number two years ago. The Democratic National Convention kicks off today in the Midwestern U.S. city of Chicago with President Joe Biden scheduled to speak to the delegates tonight. The conflict in Sudan has had a significant impact on neighboring countries, particularly Egypt, which has become a destination for a large and growing population of Sudanese refugees.
