Welcome to The Hiker Podcast. This week I am excited to talk with hiker, writer, and adventurer Retha Charette.
Retha Charette is a long-distance hiker, travel writer, and adventure lover. As a lifetime member of the Girl Scouts, she learned at a young age how to get outside and make the perfect s'more. In 2015 after her divorce she decided to climb Mount Kilimanjaro on a whim. After that, there was no turning back from a life of adventure. Since then she started her blog, roamingnanny.com, to help women find adventure all over the world. She has trekked to Everest Base Camp, hiked the Salkantay trek to Machu Picchu, and in 2021 she took on her biggest adventure yet, thru-hiking the Appalachian Trail. Some of Retha's other loves include all things Disney (especially Donald Duck), rock climbing, watching old movies, and eating ice cream.

Heather Diaz: Hiker, Runner, & Outdoor Educator | The Hiker Podcast Episode 16
Adventure is Out There Podcast
10/30/20 • 49 min
This week Andy is very excited to talk with Hiker, Runner, & Outdoor Educator Heather Diaz!
Heather Diaz is a former experienced long-distance runner and first-generation hiker from the suburbs of Houston, Texas. She moved around Texas for her bachelor’s and graduate degrees. Life took her to San Francisco in 2012 to chase her career, and she met her partner along the way. He asked her to go on a hike for their first date, which led to thru-hiking nearly 2300 miles of the Pacific Crest Trail two years later (2017). What a loaded question! The rest is history.
Her other passions include weightlifting, day-hiking, backpacking, camping, cycling, conservation, and helping even the most novice feel included and empowered in the outdoors.
You can now find her day-hiking along the Central Coast or Bay area. Look out for the girl in purple pants or vibrant colors or patterns, and she might be picking up trash at her favorite local preserve too. In 2021, she and her partner, Stephen, are planning to finish the Sierra section they skipped. Check out hikeandlift.com to follow her tips, adventure plans, and Bay Area trail guides at hikeandlift.com.
