Hetch Hetchy Valley in Yosemite National Park was described by John Muir as “one of nature’s rarest and most precious mountain temples" and was once considered one of the most unique and diverse ecosystems in the world. However, in 1913 the city of San Francisco won Congressional approval to dam and flood Hetch Hetchy, thus burying this extraordinary valley under 300 feet of water. Spreck Rosekrans is the Executive Director at Restore Hetch Hetchy and is leading the fight to bring back what was once lost.

Alex Haraus is a full-time outdoor photographer, who initially grew up finding adventure in Chicago. After discovering “roof topping” and urban exploration, he eventually traveled west and worked with organizations such as Americorps to take part in backcountry trail building. But Alex’s real passion is ‘Rugged Conservation,’ which is basically using adventure photography as a hook to teach others about climate change and conservation by encouraging them to develop their own relationship with nature.

Matt Spencer is living a life full of adventure. On this episode we chat about how he got into river guiding, first in Colorado and then in Africa on the Zambezi River (even though he was initially scared of water) and then talk about his other adventures in the developing world, working for Americorps and moving to New Zealand. We also have a conversation on dams and whether or not they belong on certain rivers that once ran wild and discuss how people can overcome imposter syndrome in the outdoors.

Joseph Fowler is on a mission to be a great dad and raise his kids to respect and appreciate the outdoors. He recently launched a personal blog called “Chasing Everyday Adventures,” with the hope that you’ll find some insight and discover inspiration to take some adventures of your own.
