In this episode, Beth interviews Nikki Villavicencio and her partner Darrell Paulsen about the need for more progressive women with disabilities in public office. Nikki is currently running for Maplewood City Council here in MN for the second time. She and Darrell invite residents to their home on Fridays. While mobile health response teams have already been developed throughout the state of MN for 911 calls, such responses have not yet been required across the board. Bill Czech and James Reilly from Communities United Against Police Brutality share info behind the current legislation and how folks can get involved. Specifically, the new legislation will be called Travis’ Law, providing for mental health crisis access to services via the 911 system, modifying Minnesota Statutes 2009, section 403.03, subdivision 1.
