Accelerating Careers in Real Estate
Nick Carman
Nick Carman is Partnership Director at Macdonald and Company. In this podcast, he explores a theory he has built after 15 years in recruiting in real estate, interviewing more than 1000 industry professionals. We ALL, when we enter our chosen career, accelerate; we learn and develop quickly... but this period of acceleration eventually slows and we reach a period of consolidation. But what if, during this period of consolidation, we could unlock something that would allow us to regain the same pace of acceleration we first experienced and continue to grow? Nick talks with industry experts to find out.

He has a true passion for what he does and an incredible engine and confidence that he was on the right path with Kings Cross well before others saw the same vision. What I found fascinating was talking to Roger he has reached some dizzy heights in terms of titles and responsibilities but had no problem sharing and ultimately relinquishing these titles as he concentrated on his passions: the projects and the impact these have on the people in them.

Episode 1 - Marc Vlessing
Accelerating Careers in Real Estate
05/18/20 • 58 min
In this episode with Marc Vlessing, we listen to how he has started careers in three separate sectors. I believe Marc could have been successful in whatever industry he choose, but for the past 16 years his chosen career has been as CEO for Pocket Living in the starter home market. I thought my favourite lesson I learnt from Marc was the importance of PURPOSE he speaks very passionately about these earlier careers and demonstrating real chameleon talents to adapt yet ultimately he left them behind, yet with pocket he experienced slower growth of this business compared to his earlier achievements, arguably he has faced much steeper hurdles yet what made him stick at it AND I believe it was because he has found his PURPOSE. And for anyone looking for a key of how to accelerate their careers do you know what your PURPOSE IS?

He built a blistering 15 year career with Grosvenor in the UK and Paris ending his journey as the Executive Director for the London Portfolio with £5bn AUM. He chose to leave that behind to begin a role that needed to really benefit society and not simply to pay a shareholder a dividend. He found it when he agreed to become the CEO of Retirement Villages Group. Will describes his career through successive stages of achievements, deep personal tragedy and thoroughly steep learning curve.
