How To Create Residual Income As A Voice Over Artist
There are smart ways to automate the process of selling audiobooks so that you can simply sit back and watch your bank account grow!. Creating income as a voice over artist has always really been a one-shot deal. You find a client, negotiate a price, record the audio, and send it off to its destination.
You are paid from 1 to 1. Basically, you are paid for a service. This is a great way to do it, and a very old way. Personally, I want to do a voice-over job once and get paid over and over again. Of course rights apply, but the reality is, most of us are not playing in that sandbox and never will. So how can we create a residual income in voice over? Something that pays us over and over again? The first thing that comes to my mind is royalties for audiobooks. I can't think of a better option. However, there is a caveat ... if you narrate a book and no one buys it, the amount of time you get a royalty does matter because it is making you nothing. If we think of an audiobook as a finished product, we can look at it as something that needs to be marketing and selling.
And let's face it, there is no better place to sell audiobooks and voice over services than the internet. Setting this up would be narrating an audiobook, entering into a royalty arrangement, marketing and selling the book, make money every month on the percentage of the sale. You might be thinking that selling this book month after month would be tough, and a lot of work. You are right! Unless ... you have a system that you can plug your audiobook into that sells it for you day and night. This is exactly what we are exploring here.

Voice Acting Tutorial - Expressiveness
Expressiveness Definition - the quality of effectively conveying a thought or feeling.
Being able to effectively express an idea or emotion is the hallmark of a good voice actor. And the way to do that is by using emphasis.
Emphasis Definition - special importance, value, or prominence given to something.

I posted the definitions because I believe that it is important to be able to define what we do. We must know the rules and how speech can move us and push us towards actions that we would not normally take before we heard it.
This is our job as the "Voice Talent" and in this episode, I dive into the 8 means of emphasis.

Are You Willing To Fail?
Fear is such a taboo topic. And it makes sense... we think of fear as some weakness, and no one wants to appear weak for FEAR of being humiliated or feeling less special than we are.
This is bad enough. But fear does something even worse to us. Fear stops us from falling.
It is a built-in mechanism millions of years old inside our heads that prevent us from being too cavalier which could lead to being harmed or even death. And once upon a time, if we were too adventurous and wandered into that Sabretooth's den, we would most definitely regret it.

But today, the Sabretooth has a different face... OUR OWN!
We fear what others think more than anything because in our society, the only thing we actually have to fear anymore, is social banishment or chastisement.
Now, I am not trying to write a book on our emotions, but it is so important that we, as voiceover business owners, recognize that the only way for us to move forward, is to venture out on our own and makes mistakes. And yes, THAT's SCARY!
But the crazy thing is... people don't follow fear, they follow courage. And in our society today, we reward the courageous.
