In our world, power often seems to dominate, especially in the hands of dictators whose reigns eventually crumble. However, there are various types of power. One perspective comes from Paramhansa Yogananda, who suggested that what some consider "powers" are actually divine workings; true spiritual strength lies in inner power—the ability to align with God’s will. During our recent travels in India, we discussed these ideas, emphasizing the importance of accepting life’s challenges with calmness and maintaining a forgiving heart. These qualities not only help reassure us in tough times but also embody divine love, freeing us from negativity and allowing God’s light to shine through us.

In a recent article by Paramhansa Yogananda, I came across the idea that forgiveness is more powerful than revenge. This inspired me to explore the concept of forgiveness and releasing feelings of resentment towards others. Through meditation and introspection, I could let go of past hurts and grievances, experiencing a newfound mental freedom. I realized that those who hurt me were facing their own struggles, and forgiving them changed how I viewed those situations. This journey taught me that forgiveness has the power to bring about positive change in both ourselves and others.

Master offers several techniques to heal and strengthen our body, mind, and soul. For the body, his energization exercises are key, emphasizing that willpower and energy flow enhance physical magnetism. He also highlights the importance of a nutritious diet, recommending fresh whole foods, fruits, and intermittent fasting—advice that resonates with modern nutritionists. Furthermore, he encourages positive thinking to overcome illness, suggesting we distinguish between our identity and our physical state. When it comes to the mind, introspection and honest self-reflection are crucial. He promoted the idea that recognizing our faults is a step toward improvement, and self-analysis can be aided by his Psychological Chart. For soul, regular meditation and Kriya Yoga practice are essential for uplifting our consciousness, and cultivating devotion to the guru can deepen our practice. Ultimately, when love for God becomes our priority, we not only become vessels of light ourselves but also inspire others to do the same.

The story highlights a woman who, through determination and the energization techniques taught by Yoganandaji, was able to heal her crushed pelvis and legs despite initial difficulties. After her cast was removed, she surprised the doctor with her healing progress, ultimately regaining mobility, albeit with a slight limp and a cane. This tale serves as a reminder of the power we all hold to overcome challenges, especially during troubling times marked by war, political strife, and uncertainty. Now is the time to unite in faith and channel divine energy into the world through meditation and prayer. Jesus and other great souls are actively supporting humanity, encouraging us to maintain hope and stay receptive to their guidance. Together, we can strive for a brighter future filled with love and compassion.

Three Reasons to Face Your Fears

Fear of the unknown is a natural part of being human, but for those on a spiritual journey, it can be a powerful teacher. I want to share three stories that highlight the importance of confronting our fears with courage and faith. One story from Yogananda’s Autobiography of a Yogi features Sri Yukteswar, who, after being frightened by a ghost story from his mother, bravely entered the dark chamber only to find there was nothing to fear. This teaches us that when we face our fears, they often lose their grip on us. Additionally, Swami Kriyananda emphasizes that true courage comes from recognizing God's presence within us, which helps us understand that our fears are opportunities for growth. Embracing this perspective allows us to see fear as a stepping stone rather than an obstacle.

Life is full of challenges, but it’s the choices we make in response to those setbacks that truly define us. Swami Kriyananda exemplified this attitude by facing difficulties with unwavering faith and positivity. An inspiring example is when he continued to hum a song after the temple burned down, reminding us that while external losses can occur, our internal joy remains within our control. Whenever you face trials, keep in mind that what matters most is who you become because of them. Wishing you blessings on your journey toward inner freedom.

The spiritual bond between Swamiji and Paramhansa Yogananda has touched and transformed countless lives since their meeting on September 12, 1948. Swamiji's deep discipleship is highlighted by the unconditional love and guidance he received from his guru. True discipleship goes beyond teachings and practices; it is about experiencing a love unconditioned by time or events, which becomes the central reality of one's life. This love, when sincerely embraced, fulfills the heart's longing and deepens the attunement with the guru.

As members of a community, we have a wonderful responsibility to live in the light and share it. I recently came across an intriguing article explaining how acts of kindness can create a ripple effect, influencing others far beyond just the recipient. A great example of this is from Riccardo Pes, a talented cellist from the Ananda Assisi community. After the tragic vandalism of the iconic sycamore tree in Northern England, he was inspired to compose a piece titled “Lament for the Sycamore Gap Tree.” Despite being in Rome, he felt compelled to pay tribute to the tree by journeying through challenging weather to play his composition at the site. His heartfelt performance not only honored the fallen tree but also resonated with many, going viral and spreading compassion globally. This reminds us that in a world where darkness exists, our creative responses can shine a light and inspire others. It’s a beautiful call to action for each of us to embrace our role as bearers of light and kindness.

In the journey of self-improvement, especially around New Year’s, many people focus on physical habits, but spiritual resolutions are equally important. A key theme in spiritual teachings emphasizes being present and attentive. One powerful resolution that can enhance all others is to truly focus on what you're doing. This involves four principles: concentration, commitment, repetition, and enjoyment. By deeply engaging with your resolutions, you can transform them into rewarding experiences rather than burdens. So, take a moment to reflect on your goals for the coming year, choose a couple that resonate with you, and approach them with focus and enthusiasm. After all, it's about making those changes fun and meaningful!

A Touch of Light Podcast - Service as a Means of Expanding the Heart
play

03/14/25 • -1 min

I am in the early stages of writing my book, The Heart of Service, I'm excited to share a glimpse from Chapter Two titled “Service as a Means of Expanding the Heart.” Selfless service has a beautiful ability to expand the heart, reflecting the love of God found throughout the universe. This love is often witnessed in the deep affection of parents for their children and even in the brave sacrifices animals make for their young. A touching story illustrates this: a forest ranger discovered a mother quail who, in her last moments, protected her chicks from a wildfire, showcasing the profound nature of love and sacrifice that resides in all beings. When we serve others, our hearts open and become channels for divine grace. This generosity creates a divine circuit, allowing us to receive as we give. True service carries a magnetic energy that uplifts both the giver and the receiver, inspiring greater love and kindness. To serve effectively, we should connect with others on a spiritual level, fostering a sense of resonance that elevates everyone involved. The Golden Rule, found in many religious teachings, encapsulates this universal truth of compassion and care.
