Having tackled Tim Burton’s Ed Wood, we used our latest episode to look at Ed Wood’s magnum opus, Plan 9 From Outer Space! The film, rightly or wrongly, is hailed as the worst movie of all time. Our friend and bad movie aficionado Kelvin Hatle joins us once again to explore what will forever be known as Bela Lugosi’s last film. Listen as we talk about how this film got made and how it went from obscurity to cult classic.

Our next episode will be all about one of the best movies ever made: Citizen Kane!

Alee Elingsburg joins us to talk about The Lion in Winter, a classic historical drama about a fictional Christmas Henry II spent with his family. It is full of political machinations, scenery chewing dialogue, and a very youthful Timothy Dalton & Anthony Hopkins. Katherine Hepburn and Peter O’Toole are the stars who drive this whole acting train and they do a darn fine job. We hope you enjoy the movie as much as we did!

Today, we return to the world of Stanley Kubrick to experience 2001: A Space Odyssey in 70mm glory. We are joined by a panel of guests including regular Allee Ellingsburg, Scott Keever, and Richard Brantley. Almost everyone had seen the film before but this was the first time most had seen it in a theater. Few other movies are as transformed by sitting in a movie theater as 2001. We talk about a lot of things but one thing we didn’t record is a pre-movie segment. We just dive right into the film on this one so if you are used to listening to our opening segment and then watching the movie, look out! Spoilers are right out of the gate!

Next up, we are going to shift gears and watch Stop Making Sense.

For our newest episode, we subjected Jena to the 1984 train wreck that is David Lynch’s Dune! We are joined by two special guests. First is Kelvin Hatle, who has an unholy love for bad movies great and small. Second is Jerry Belich who, along with Melissa, produced a Swede version of the film that you can (and should) watch on Youtube! We try to make sense of a film that almost works on many levels and yet completely fails on all of them. Who knows if we succeeded?

We added the horrible song that Tim wrote for the credit sequence of the Dune Swede. It is after the closing music to the podcast. If you’d like to download your own version of the song (though we don’t know why you would), you can do that here.

This week, Susanne Becker joins us to watch the horror classic Halloween! Jamie Lee Curtis and Donald Pleasence star in a movie that pretty much served as the source for every masked killer horror trope from the 1980’s. Make no mistake, though, this film did them all first and, in many ways, it is still the best. While the film may not have aged as well as some of the other classic titles we’ve watched, it is still some very impressive work by Horror virtuoso John Carpenter.

Next up, we will be watching The Shining!
