Suresh Kumar, Professor of Practice and Director of Innovation & Entrepreneurship Programs, Ying Wu College of Computing, New Jersey Institute of Technology

Suresh is a Deloitte Fast 50 and 5-time INC 500 ranked serial entrepreneur, who is also immersed in academics and policy development in entrepreneurship. He has a doctoral degree in the area of high-growth immigrant entrepreneurship and is an expert in the Lean Startup methodology for scaling startups and in the area building sustainable innovation and economic ecosystem builder. Most recently he served as a member of the Small Business and Entrepreneurship sub-committee of the Joe Biden campaign. Currently, Suresh serves as Professor of innovation and entrepreneurship at New Jersey Institute of Technology.

Dale Caldwell, Executive Director, Rothman Institute of Innovation and Entrepreneurship, Fairleigh Dickinson University

Dr. Caldwell is a professor and the executive director of the Rothman Institute of Innovation and Entrepreneurship in the Silberman College of Business at Fairleigh Dickinson University (FDU). He is leading the Institute’s efforts to support, promote and research family, veteran and student entrepreneurship. Dr. Brenner is the President of Clinical Integration and Physician Enterprise for Valley Health System (VHS). He oversees quality and performance improvement, strategic relations and clinical service line development across VHS, as well as Valley Medical Group, Valley Home Care, ColigoCare (VHS’s 600-provider Clinically Integrated Network) and Population Health.

Dr. Brenner joined Valley in 2015 as SVP and Chief Physician Executive for VHS, and has led an organizational transformation from Fee-For-Service to Fee-For-Value that included the conversion to shared savings contracts and the development of ColigoCare and VHS’s Population Health Department. Dr. Brenner led the creation of service lines spanning the continuum of care, the reorganization of Transitions in Care and Case Management, and the unification of quality management across VHS. Prior to joining VHS, Dr. Brenner served as Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of Summit Medical Group for nine years and, subsequently, as CMO of Summit Health Management.

Simon Samaha, MD, MBA, is a veteran healthcare executive and entrepreneur. He is currently a Senior Advisor at Oliver Wyman and a member of its Health and Life Sciences Team. He is a recognized thought leader in provider with deep expertise in Clinical Services and Physician Enterprises.

Dr. Nader currently serves as chairman of Acceleron Pharma (XLRN), Prevail Therapeutics (PRVL) and Talaris Therapeutics; and board director of Alexion Pharmaceuticals (ALXN) and Moderna (MRNA). Previously, Dr. Nader was President, Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director of NPS Pharma from 2008 to 2015.

During his tenure as CEO, Dr. Nader transformed NPS Pharma into a leading global biotechnology company focused on delivering innovative therapies to patients with rare diseases. The company was acquired by Shire for $5.2B in 2015. Dr. Nader won the Ernst and Young National Life Science Entrepreneur of the Year® award in 2013. Before NPS, Dr. Nader was a venture partner at Care Capital.

Prior, he served on the North America Leadership Team of Aventis and its predecessor companies holding a number of executive positions including senior vice-president, integrated healthcare markets and North America medical and regulatory affairs. She is the Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder of Rising Tide Capital, a non-profit organization that provides underserved entrepreneurs with the resources they need to launch and grow successful businesses. Laurent joined the Rutgers University Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering in 2019, after serving as a scientific researcher at ONERA, the French Aerospace Lab for 9 years, and as a "guidance and control" expert for 7 years inside the French DoD. He has thus collaborated with European Aerospace Industry leaders for around fifteen years. Burlion's research develops and applies advanced flight control algorithms to uncertain systems and is motivated by aerospace applications including spacecraft, aircraft, and drones.

He led a project on vision-based landing of aerial vehicles, at the request of Airbus between 2013 and 2017. He also worked on advanced controls for the prevention of, and the recovery from, aircraft excursions from nominal flight regimes. At Rutgers, Burlion is setting up a new lab in which drones can perform indoor and outdoor flights. The drones are either directly bought "off the shelf " or "homemade" by graduate and undergraduate students. Innovative algorithms are implemented to both improve the reliability and enlarge the flight envelope of autonomous quadcopters and airplanes. He is also working on offshore floating wind turbines and nanosatellites.

Dan O’Toole is a serial entrepreneur and business leader who is among the first in the United States to secure patents for a smart mailbox designed to securely accept packages delivered by drone. DRONEDEK holds a First-Position Patent Portfolio for the next-generation mailbox of autonomous and drone delivery.

Two issued US Utility Patents, two additional utility patents are under examination now and two PCT’s. In all 111 patent claims already awarded or filed for. Dan is a Ball State University graduate and lives in Carmel, Indiana with his family.

Secretary David Shulkin, the ninth Secretary of the US Department of Veterans Affairs, shares insights about his service to two very different Presidents and the current state of public service as he discusses his best selling book, It Shouldn’t Be This Hard To Serve Your Country.

American veterans face a number of challenges in the country today - from chronic homelessness to mental health issues and PTSD to a chaotic and understaffed VA. While technology has evolved to keep up with the needs of the United States military, the same change and care for veterans are often regarded as lagging behind. Dr. David Shulkin, who served as the United States Secretary for Veteran’s Affairs in the Trump Administration from February 2017 until March 2018, and before that as Under Secretary of Veterans Affairs for Health in the Obama Administration, joined us for a candid discussion about the policy and politics of veterans’ affairs.

As Secretary, Dr. David Shulkin represented the 21 million American veterans and was responsible for the nation’s largest integrated health care system with over 1,200 sites of care, serving over 9 million Veterans. Prior to coming to VA, Secretary Shulkin was a widely respected healthcare executive having served as chief executive of leading hospitals and health systems including Beth Israel in New York City and Morristown Medical Center. As an entrepreneur, Secretary Shulkin founded and served as the Chairman and CEO of DoctorQuality and has served on boards of managed care companies, technology companies, and health care organizations.

Secretary Shulkin is the University of Pennsylvania Leonard Davis Institute Distinguished Health Policy Fellow and Professor at the Jefferson University College of Population Health. He is a board-certified internist and received advanced training in outcomes research and economics as a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Clinical Scholar at the University of Pennsylvania. Over his career Secretary Shulkin has been named, “One Hundred Most Influential People in American Healthcare” by Modern Healthcare.
