Jump into Music of 1992
90s Noise
03/15/23 • 39 min
We are back! Welcome to Season 2 and Year 1992! It's been a year so far and a lot more to come. Aprill and Ashley have many plans of getting together this year for various reasons, a lot of them being for the different cons happening. Until those happen, we are taking you into the music of 1992. What did we think about the selections from this year? Are they getting better? Worse? How easy is it for us to pick a top 5 for the year?
Surprisingly enough there was a lot of similarity in our picks with one host taking a lot of the others hosts songs. And also, Ashley unlocked a memory with one song that she remembers from school oddly enough.
And stay tuned, because this season we are ending each episode with a game. We will be asking each other this or that and trivia questions. Mostly pertaining to the topic at hand, but sometimes random ones to spice things up. You won't want to miss it!

Saddle up for a trip down memory lane as we revisit the Olsen Twins' classic, "How the West Was Fun"!
In this episode of 90s Noise, we take a nostalgic deep dive into the 1994 feature-length comedy that had us all yearning for wild mustangs and ranch life. So, whether "How the West Was Fun" was a childhood favorite or you're just curious about the film that had us all begging our parents for a horse, this episode is for you.
Join us as we discuss our initial thoughts from watching it as a kid to our views on it now 30 years later. We also chat about the film's plot, the memorable villain, and even touch on the fashion that screams '90s.
Plus, we explore the Olsen Twins' evolution from their early movies to their later works and get into a friendly debate about which Olsen's line (including Lizzie) would be longer at a hypothetical convention. It's a conversation you'll definitely want to weigh in on.

This week we take a dive into some family friendly animal lover movies that shaped most of us 90s kids (or at least traumatized the majority of us).
When you think of 90s animal movies at least one of these duos comes to mind -- BEETHOVEN or HOMEWARD BOUND. Now, we touched on some behind the scenes information when we talked to the director of the first BEETHOVEN earlier this year (be sure to check that episode out if you haven't). Join us as we circle back around to include some more personal feelings towards the first two Beethoven's. It's unclear to us how many are in the franchise but for this episode's sake, we are only discussing the first two.
If you ask our entire generation what was the one moment that caused immediate heartbreak and we are still working through with our therapist to this day -- it would be the one scene from HOMEWARD BOUND (unless you are a certain blogger). This one was a bit tougher for us to go into to try and keep our emotions in check even discussing the not as heart wrenching second movie too. While we won't give away too much, this is definitely an episode for any animal lover out there. Even if you are not a huge animal lover we hope you enjoy our viewpoints on these movies as well as the childhood memories that go along with them.
And you will definitely want to hear the end of this episode as we review a review we found on one of these movies. We have some words to say about this blog in particular. You don't want to miss it!

It's Turbo Time BONUS EPISODE
90s Noise
12/20/23 • 49 min
In this nostalgic episode of '90s Noise, your hosts Ashley and April dive into the festive spirit as we discuss the 1996 Christmas movie, "Jingle All The Way." Ashley, who surprisingly just watched the movie for the very first time, shares her thoughts on Arnold Schwarzenegger's performance and the film's appeal, which she believes might have been geared more towards a male audience.
We also reminisce about our conversation earlier this year with the film's director, Brian Levant, and how he enjoyed working on the project, especially in developing the Turbo Man toy.
Tune in for a trip down memory lane as we unpack one of the '90s holiday classics with humor and insight discussing all things Christmas from last minute shopping trips, to our memories of Santa Claus, to the wonder that is the 'Mall of America', and so much more.
We wish everyone a very merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Secret World with Natanya Ross
90s Noise
03/28/24 • 47 min
This week, 90's Noise co-host, Aprill, flies solo while interviewing a favorite 90's child actor.
You may know her as the vocal and spunky Robyn Russo from The Secret World of Alex Mack or as the semi-mean girl Grace from The Baby-Sitter's Club movie. But we know her best as herself - Natanya Ross.
Listen along as she talks about her experiences growing up as a child actor and how that transformed her into the amazing woman she is today.

3 Ninjas Trilogy w/Bygone Geek
90s Noise
06/07/23 • 89 min
It's Trilogy Time again! This week we are joined by Eric from Bygone Geek Podcast to discuss one of Aprill's favorite trilogies growing up -- 3 NINJAS! We are rounding off 1992 with what some may call a cult classic and others may call a waste of four hours of their lives. You be the judge on which category you fall into. Come along with us as we battle with American trained Ninjas, Japanese Ninjas and the ever popular Cowboys and Native Americans.
While each of the three movies we are discussing - 3 Ninjas, 3 Ninjas Kick Back, and 3 Ninjas Knuckle Up - all showcase classic 90s male geared themes, we also discuss how these films really do NOT hold up in today's day. and age These movies aren't only confusing in their timeline (Knuckle Up being filmed before Kick Back, but released after), the switching up of two of the main actors, but also are not very culturally appropriate with how they handled certain aspects.
While they will always hold a special place in Aprill's heart for the memories they bring back - we all can't help but agree that these would be massive bombs if released today. Certain themes in the movies could be applied today, however, it's hard to get over how overshadowed those were when up against extreme type-casting and all around not very good stories.
Let us know - did you ever watch these growing up? If so, who did you like most: Rocky, Colt, Tum-Tum or Grandpa?

We're unpacking the year that catapulted Carrey into superstardom with the release of three major hits: "Ace Ventura: Pet Detective," "The Mask," and "Dumb and Dumber."
From behind-the-scenes trivia to personal anecdotes, we explore the impact these films had on our childhoods and the comedy landscape. We discuss Carrey's unique comedic style, his transition to more serious roles, and the lasting legacy of his '94 film trio. Plus, we touch on other memorable Carrey roles from the '90s, including his portrayal of The Riddler in "Batman Forever" and his transformation into the Grinch.

Who do you think liked My Girl more, Ashley or Aprill? My Girl was a big success when it came out in 1991, with the likes of Macaulay Culkin, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Dan Aykroyd. We are also introduced to the talented Anna Chlumsky who plays, Vada.
Bees, boys, bullying, crushes, periods, love, death. This movie touches on a lot of heavy hitting topics that as a kid you may or may not have understood. There is also a very interesting background on how the rating and marketing of this movie came to be that sort of changes our viewpoint on things.
We discuss if we had any teacher crushes in grade school, our first kiss, the thought of living in a funeral home, and our first experiences with death. Also, mood rings anyone?
So, what made this movie so special back then and what makes people want to keep watching it today? We share our thoughts on this and much more!

We are back with more on one of the greatest animated films of our time. After watching the ABC special on Beauty and the Beast: A 30th Celebration, we wanted to give our take on what we thought about it. What was our favorite moment, what didn't work for us, and how emotional we got during the tribute to Angela Lansbury. We hope you enjoy this bonus episode and we would love to hear your thoughts on how you felt about this special broadcast.

The seaweed is always greener, in somebody else's pond....This week's episode, we discuss the Disney animated classic, The Little Mermaid from 1989.
We know it's not TECHNICALLY a "90s" movie, but it was close enough that we'll let it slide. With the new live-action version coming out in just a few short weeks we thought it'd be fun to take a trip Under the Sea and revisit this one with adult eyes.
How much of this classic movie do we remember and what are our favorite and not so favorite moments from it? We both grew up on this movie and seemed to have enjoyed it as kids, but does it still give us those same feelings now?
From the soundtrack, to the characters, to the somewhat odd plot devices we are discussing it all.
We have some theories as well about why some of the animals could talk and others not....plus we are ranking some of the Disney princes and you don't want to miss out on that!
