Elaine Thomas lives in Wilmington, NC, and is a member of the Wilmington Write to Publish group. Her work has appeared in numerous literary journals and magazines, including The Dead Mule School of Southern Literature, moonShine Review, Blue Mountain Review, and Pembroke Magazine. She won the North Carolina Writers’ Network 2018 Rose Post Creative Nonfiction Competition. A retired college communications professional, Thomas also holds an M.Div. from Duke Divinity School and now works with New Hanover Regional Medical Center as an on-call hospital chaplain.

As a 4th-grade schoolboy in 1946, he wrote a two-paragraph essay on the meaning of freedom; a half-dozen of those words ended up being quoted in the Boston Globe. This is his first published work since. After 20 years in the U.S. Army followed by 30 as a physician assistant working in a psychiatric hospital, he’s been retired since 2009.
