Hello hello! Somehow it is the end of April? Anyone else feel like March was eternal and April came and went in the blink of an eye?? We’re still in the throes of the coronavirus pandemic, so there’s not too much to report. This month’s episode is just me by my lonesome. I was unable to find a guest who could record remotely, so it’s just me and my musings. BUT I hope you don’t change that dial (???) because I dive deep into my thoughts and explore my experience of spending so much time alone and end up writing one of my favorite songs yet!

Hi everybody, March is finally over and hoo boy, it’s been a doozy of a month for Nashville, for our country, and the world at large. This month’s guest is another friend of mine from college, Rochelle Riser. Rochelle is a singer and songwriter here in Nashville, TN. She is a lovely human with a beautiful voice and a delightful personality, as you will soon hear. Rochelle plays the guitar (very well I might add), which means this is the first episode on this show that you will hear with a guitar! We end up writing a delightful little folk/americana song that sounds fit for a Pixar movie. Call us Pixar!

It’s Leap Day today which means we have a whole extra day to play with! I did NOT spend all day inside, editing this episode, that’s for sure! Artist, Songwriter, and Vocal Producer Colby Lapolla joins Tim in the Bad Songs Studio (aka Tim’s house) and they dive deep into Colby’s journey with music and facing your fears. We approached writing the song a little differently than usual opting to start developing the track as we were writing the lyrics, so you will hear it go through MANY iterations before we land on the final song. BUT the final song is very cool and VERY different from anything we’ve ever written on this show. It sounds like something you might hear on the WB before your favorite prime-time drama. ANYways, I hope you enjoy it and as always, let us know what you think!

New episodes on the 1st of every month! Stay tuned!

Episode 12 of your favorite podcast is here! In this episode, I meet up with my older sister Francesca Scalici while I am home in Birmingham, AL for Thanksgiving. We talk about the holidays and our shared childhood experiences while sitting around the piano that we both took lessons on in our youth. The song we write is rightly centered around that old Kohler & Campbell upright. In the end, we came up with a down-home sounding song that I think you will certainly enjoy. But of course, let us know what YOU think!

New episodes will come out every month on the 1st of the month. So stay tuned!

Here we are in the FUTURE! Welcome to 2020 and welcome to Season 2 of your favorite songwriting podcast, 50 Bad Songs! In this episode we ring in the new year by talking about the creative process and being able to let go of something you have created and move on. SPOILER ALERT: it’s not easy. Neither is working alone. BUT we struggle through and make it out the other side with a new song in tow. The song actually turns out real nice and I think you will enjoy it too! As always, let us know what YOU think! Thank you to everyone who has stuck with us through the great 2019 hiatus. As you will hear, we encountered some difficulties and the podcast has undergone some changes in the last year, BUT we are not letting challenges and difficult times hold us back and we are moving forward anyways! New episodes will come out every month on the 1st of the month. So stay tuned! www.patreon.com/50badsongs @50badsongs @timrosko

Welcome to 50 Bad Songs — a behind-the-scenes look at the process of transforming ideas into music and lyrics. Starting in 2020, a new episode of 50 Bad Songs will be posted on the 1st of every month. If you like 50 Bad Songs, help us grow by spreading the word! Follow us on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram, check out our website at www.50badsongs.com and leave us a glowing review on Apple Podcasts! (it helps other people discover us). But most importantly, if you enjoy 50 Bad Songs, tell a friend or family member! That’s truly the best way to help us grow.

TRANSCRIPT:

Even the best songwriters in the world have written countless songs that are, well, mediocre, ....good? I guess?, or just plain bad! After all, you can’t expect the first song you write to be a hit! Or the next. Or the next.... In fact, you might have to write up to fifty bad songs before you ever write a good song, let alone a top-charting hit song!

My name is Tim Rosko and I am embarking on a journey to write my own ‘bad’ songs and I wanted to share my journey with you, in the form of a podcast! Each episode, I will have a conversation with a guest and from our conversation we will find the seeds of an idea that will become the basis of a new song that we will write together. From this kernel of an idea, we will dig in and craft lyrics and music and by the end of each episode we will have a new song of our own creation. By removing the self-imposed pressure to write a ‘good’ song, we allow ourselves the freedom to write any song, period. And by writing song after song, eventually, we will get better. Only by writing can we get better at writing.

So if you have ever wondered: how the heck does a song gets written? how do I write a song? what do I even write about? how do I know if my ideas are any good? Listen in as we wrestle with these questions, and challenge ourselves to create in spite of ourselves. I’ve heard it said that there is no wrong way to write. So hopefully by listening to this podcast, you will be inspired to find your own way to write songs, create music, or try something new you’ve always wanted to try! Remember, you can’t be good at something without first being bad at it.

Welcome to 50 Bad Songs.

50 Bad Songs welcomes another guest this week--Lauren Brumley! Lauren is a singer, songwriter, podcaster, and business woman here in Nashville, TN. Tim and Anna talk with Lauren about her songwriting experiences and the podcast that she hosts, The Music Buzz Podcast. Together they end up writing a delightfully family-friendly song that could fit right into a Disney Channel Original Movie.

Such a fun song. we hope you enjoy it as much as we do! And as always, we'd love to hear what you think!

We’re back and we’ve missed you all so much! It seems after our last episode, we both just needed some time to embrace the summer sun and have some fun! And truthfully, we had this episode recorded for a while, I just didn’t have the time to edit until September...

In this episode, we start the conversation off by talking about time capsules. We eventually move onto television shows and tamagotchi and the like (naturally), but we just couldn’t seem to get away from them idea of time capsules... Let's just say, things get real schmaltzy real quick.

Tim and Anna discuss the essence of summer, their favorite summer time treats, and the sun and then write a sweet beachy tune to match! Hope you enjoy!

Another month has gone by and another episode is here. This episode is slightly different from how we usually do things. I had a different episode lined up, but given the events of the past week and the protests and rebellions that followed, I felt compelled to release something different. It didn’t feel right to release just another episode without addressing things. I decided that I would let the music pour out of me and not worry about lyrics, so this episode is shorter than usual. But I think the resulting song truly expresses what's in my heart. This is my prayer of protest.
