Ever since I can remember, I’ve HATED the idea of living an average life. It took me a long time to figure out what I wanted in life....and I tried just about everything. Finally after trying my hand at college, and private university, having over 20 different occupations before my mid twenties, and being self employed multiple times, I realized the traditional path was not for me. I’ve spent almost every day of the last 6 years studying what makes successful people different from everyone else. I wanted to know why 95%+ of people don’t achieve their goals and dreams and 5% or less live extraordinary lives. And now I’m on a quest to apply everything I’ve learned so far to achieve total Financial Freedom for myself and my family - to live a life of complete time and money freedom. One where we have more “get to” do’s than “have to” do’s. Follow me on this journey as I share my latest nuggets, wins, losses, and lessons I’ve learned along the way. Episodes are released weekly and I’ll be covering topics touching on Personal Growth, Mindset, Businesses, Finance, Marketing, Leadership, Sales, Effective Communication, Productivity Tips, and Inspirational Stories to fuel your Motivation in your personal journey towards your goals. So hit subscribe, and get ready to change your life. Want access to additional resources? Visit https://www.fivepercentradio.com/

"Delayed Gratification – The Key to Success According to Stanford's Marshmallow Test"
In this episode of the 5% Radio podcast, the host discusses Marshmallows and how they are related to success and failure.
This conversation is about income and financial security, and how to avoid ending up on the path that 95% of people take. It is a path that sees incomes cap off around the age of 30, with cost of living raises that often can't even keep up with inflation. When people reach retirement age, their income drops to half or a third of what it was.
The conversation then moves on to the marshmallow test, which took place in the 1970s at Stanford. It was conducted by Professor Walter Mitchell and his team, and tested how long little kids could wait to eat a marshmallow. It was looking at delayed gratification versus instant gratification.
In a recent study, researchers tested four to five-year-old children's ability to delay gratification. They put a marshmallow in front of each child and told them if they waited until the researcher came back into the room, they would get a second marshmallow. The results showed which children ate the marshmallow immediately and which ones waited for the second one. Surprisingly, one of the children that waited for the longest went on to become the CEO of a very well-known company.

Marcus Aurelius, the second century philosopher and Roman emperor said simply: “Our life is what our thoughts make it.”

In the 16th century, William Shakespeare observed: “There’s nothing good or bad but thinking makes it so.”

During the 19th century, Ralph Waldo Emerson wrote: “Life consists of what a man is thinking of all day.”

At the beginning of the 20th century, William James, the American philosopher who known as the father of modern psychology said this: “The greatest discovery of my generation is that human beings can alter their lives by altering their attitudes of mind.”

And lastly —Carl Jung a Swiss Psychologist who was born in 1875 said “Until you make the unconscious conscious, it will rule your life and you will call it fate.”

Why, though?
What's the connection between thoughts and outcomes in our life?

More importantly how can we learn to understand these connections and use them to help us move closer to what we want and further from what we don't?
That's what this episode is all about. Thoughts - Feelings - Actions - Results. Listen to the full episode to learn more.

There is greatness inside every single individual....there are seeds that need nurturing, but what happens if you don't? Will someone else step up to the plate and fill the role you were supposed to? What would happen if you truly left it all on the field of life and became all that you were created to be?

Quote this episode:

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, 'Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?' Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”

"IF THAT'S WHAT IT TAKES TO BE SUCCESSFUL THEN I DON'T WANT TO BE SUCCESSFUL..."
I can still remember raising my voice at my dad when I was 12 years old as my dad and I are standing in the entryway for the living room right outside the mudroom.

I always felt like working 40-50 hours a week was not the ONLY way to get successful...or any way for that matter, EVEN at 12 years old.
You know how in the Matrix movie where Morpheus does the whole RED pill, BLUE pill thing with Neo - the main character? He tells him that if he takes the RED pill he can wake up and see life as it really is...but if he takes the BLUE, he'll remain half asleep.
This episode is me inviting you to take the red pill and learn the real truth about money, how it works and what the 5% - the wealthy are doing differently from everyone else - 95%.
Listen in the learn about the 4 ways of making money and why they impact our lives so heavily when it comes to reaching our dreams....or staying stuck.

Drawing inspiration from Darren Hardy's groundbreaking book, "The Compound Effect," we explore how the small, consistent actions we take daily can either lead us to success or contribute to our downfall.

We'll uncover the shared sentiment of disdain for the necessary discipline, sacrifices, and consistency demanded by the path to success. Successful individuals often confess that they, too, despised the grind, the early mornings, and the relentless effort required. Meanwhile, those who fall short of their aspirations often resent the very actions they failed to embrace.

Join us as we navigate through personal anecdotes, psychological insights, and lessons from "The Compound Effect" to shed light on the universal struggle with the process of achieving success. Whether you're on the brink of success or grappling with setbacks, this episode will offer valuable insights into the common emotional rollercoaster shared by those who pursue greatness. Discover the secrets to transforming that hate into a powerful force that propels you forward on the journey to success.

Ice melts at 33° Celsius. Water boils at 212° Celsius. Nothing special happens at 32 degrees or 211 though. Success works much in the same way. If you want to truly make it - you have to understand and apply the thinking behind the analogies I give today and take your "parallel journey" to the next level. Always remember - your internal (private) victories will ALWAYS precede your external (public) victories.

This story is about a man who was determined to achieve his goal despite the various setbacks he faced.
In 1831, he started his first business at the age of 22, but it failed. In 1832, he was defeated for legislator. In 1833, he started another business and that one also failed. In 1836, he suffered a traumatic mental breakdown. In 1840, he was defeated for elector and had another mental breakdown. His friends were so afraid that he would take his own life, that they confiscated all of the knives, razors, and scissors from his room. Despite the obstacles this man faced, he was still determined to reach his goal.
He went through three decades of failure before finally becoming the President of the United States in 1860. During this time he worked as a lawyer and had to deal with multiple congressional nominations, his son's death, and being defeated for Senate and Vice President. Despite all this, he strived to reach his goal and with a small win in 1846, he held onto a shred of hope that he could eventually reach his goal.
Despite his hard life, people still looked at him and thought it was nice to be him. The speaker then goes on to say that people will do the same thing to those who are trying to achieve their goals. They will doubt and criticize them, and even make fun of them behind their back. The speaker then mentions that there are certain people who don't want them to escape the situation they are in, and will try to pull them down. The speaker concludes that when we move forward in life, it holds up a mirror to these people and makes them realize they are not progressing.
