Episode 75 - Steve and Dave Watch Rockford Go Woke! (Or, Maybe It Always Was You Morons?)
200 Dollars a Day Plus Expenses - A Rockford Files Podcast

Also, if you've been listening, you realize that James Garner was pretty 'woke'.
Jim Rockford is not much into MAGA.
Jim Rockford supports gun control.
Jim Rockford can outdrive a right wing shitbag better than anyone.
Be like Jim Rockford.
Even Lt. Diehl isn't much on MAGA.
When you lose Lt. Diehl you are nuts.
Many of these characters likely would have listened to Joe Rogan...

Episode 68 - To Dave and Steve
200 Dollars a Day Plus Expenses - A Rockford Files Podcast
11/15/24 • -1 min
To quote my partner 'oh great another two parter with an annoying af character'.
She's really good at being annoying though. The 'she' in that sentence refers to Joyce Van Patten. One of the best ever Sopranos episodes, Pine Barrens, was directed by Tim Van Patten, Joyce's brother.
Speaking of the Sopranos, this one is a David Chase joint, and boy can you see his fingerprints. In a good way. Chase is a master at making you uncomfortably laugh, and sometimes just lol, but still be uneasy.
If Emergency (!) has taught Steve anything, it is that there are also firefighter groupies. It's probably true. I wonder if there are prof groupies? Well not for Steve and me anyway.
Again, I'm not sure this needed to be a two parter.
Lianne is ChatGPT.
We get a lot of Lt. Chapman in this one. I like Chapman better than Diel.
We'll be back next week for the exciting conclusion.

Episode 78 - Dave and Steve Check Out Your Funny Box
200 Dollars a Day Plus Expenses - A Rockford Files Podcast
03/07/25 • -1 min
This one has almost everything.
Recurring actors in different roles,
A mobbed up comedian.
A guest star from Petticoat Junction!
A guest star from Right Guard ads.
Could you ask for anything more?
It also has a serious discussion about coming out and being closeted. It's handled pretty well, especially for a tv show from 1977. The scene, near the end of the episode, is one of the most powerful things either of us have seen on the show up to this point,
It even has Lt. Diehl! It's the last time we will see him until one of the reunion movies.

Episode 62 - Dave and Steve Won't Break Your Bones
200 Dollars a Day Plus Expenses - A Rockford Files Podcast
09/20/24 • -1 min
Oh man what a group of guest stars!
General Moore?
Sherriff Bart?
Quite a few characters are introduced here, indeed the character of 'Odette' plays a big role in the season 4 finale (along with Vern St. Cloud). These recurring characters really give you a sense that Jimbo lives in a real place.
I'm not sure if 'Yves St. Lawrence' or 'Sir Guinevere' is better.
There's some really great subtext in this episode about the beginning of Reaganism.
Oakland is a lot of fun here. He is so different than his general Moore character on that other show we do a podcast about.
Big corporations crushing the little guy is an increasing theme on the show.

Episode 69 - To Steve and Dave

Another case of part 2 being better than part 1!
Lianne is not a good person.
Whereas we see that Lt. Chapman is, more or less.
Just like with TT freaking Flowers, part 2 is better than part 1. I swear, some of the 'previously on the Rockford Files' bit I missed because I was so annoyed by the Lianne character.
Jimbo is of course a good person, but we knew that already.
As Steve has pointed out a few times, someone died because of Lianne.
Biggest news this week is actual pop culture news.
Lianne is annoying. I hate her.

Episode 58 - Steve and Dave Return to the 38th Parallel
200 Dollars a Day Plus Expenses - A Rockford Files Podcast

Hey, another Korean War reference. Garner deserved those, could make as many as he wanted as far as I'm concerned.
Wait, Ned Beatty again?! YES!
We see perhaps the worst car ever, the AMC Pacer, in this episode.
This one has, in essence, a train chase.
Also Dennis is in this one.
Oh yeah, Rocky too!

Episode 60 - The Trouble With Steve and Dave
200 Dollars a Day Plus Expenses - A Rockford Files Podcast
08/30/24 • -1 min
This one plays with stereotypes of geeks. Warren is a chess and flute geek, and while that doesn't seem like the kind of thing I'd be into, it's no better than being into the LA Rams or fishing.
This one came out on Christmas Eve 1976, so we have something a little special to play at the end.
Some pretty great work by James Luisi as Chapman in this episode. Especially when he runs into 'Jim Taggart'.
That said, Jimbo's improvisation skills are on full display.
Look, I'll say it, a convoluted plot in this one. I don't care, I still loved it!

Episode 56 - So Help Steve and Dave
200 Dollars a Day Plus Expenses - A Rockford Files Podcast

William Daniels just plays pretentious jerk so well.
This one is overtly political. Oh and that's a good thing.
This one is so important that I clipped in a couple of Jimbo's speeches.
We have Dennis.
We have Angel.
We have Rocky.
We have Beth.
This also talks about a really important issue in the US, the use, and misue, of grand juries. Other liberal democracies got rid of them, ages ago.

Episode 55 - Dave and Steve Go to Coulter City to See a Wildcat

Nice callback to Gearjammers.
Rocky!
Beth!
Spotlight on Russ Mayberry this week.
Boy, Rocky getting roughed up was, at least for me, really tough to watch. Perhaps it's because I am getting closer to being an old man than a young one, I dunno.
How many episodes overall are about oil? It's lots. I wonder if the energy crisis of the early 70s made an impact here.
I've noticed more gunfights this season.
Pete's champagne, it's just Sprite and Blue Nun.

Episode 70 - Dave Cracks Steve's Back
200 Dollars a Day Plus Expenses - A Rockford Files Podcast

LA running backs, hard to trust them.
Gretchen Corbett is really really great in this one.
Too bad there's no Angel.
We do get Rocky and Jim and Beth and Dennis though.
We get Jon giving us a plane crash update. Probably his dream job.
The idea of harassment was a new one at the time, it's handled pretty well considering that.
'They've got a good ball club at San Quentin' and 'I don't just fish, I also watch football' are a couple of good Jimbo lines this week.
