2 Adoptive Mamas

We believe that in order to be the best mamas we can for our kids, it is crucial to lean on one another in community, share our hearts, support one another, provide resources, and most importantly learn to embrace and thrive in the plan God has for our families. Here at 2 Adoptive Mamas, we are committed to helping you navigate the day-to-day of adoptive mama-hood through shared resources on adoption and parenting, shared experiences, and by shared opportunities to learn from and grow with one another.

The Main Thing:
This episode is terrific. That might sound very self-promoting, but it has nothing to do with us and EVERYTHING to do with Raquel's heart for adoption, kinship care, and transforming lives and families with her message. She is fantastic and joins us for a deep dive into shadow feelings, kinship care, and life as an adoptee and a birth mom. During our conversation, Raquel opens up about healthy boundaries, how to preserve your family's story, and what it looks like to thrive amidst kinship care. She's the real deal and so eloquently shares her heart and passion to equip families facing similar challenges. Episode Resources:

The Main Thing:
Trisha Priebe joined us for Episode 012 from her seat as the Director of Communications at Lifesong for Orphans. Well, she’s BACK for Episode 036 and we could not be more thrilled!
As an adoptee, adoptive mom, and adoption advocate, Trisha lives, breathes, and embraces all things adoption. Her heart for the Lord, transparency in sharing her own personal journey, and her mission to help adoptees feel whole in who they are and the calling on their life is simply unmatched. It was a delight to dive deep into the trenches with Trisha and unpack some of the hidden conversations that we tend to tuck away. We were inspired and challenged by our time together, and hope you are too!

Episode Resources:
Trisha shared about the Equipping Minds Cognitive Development Curriculum in this episode - check it out HERE!

The Main Thing:
Cindy LaJoy is one of the most passionate, real, and encouraging moms you'll meet. She has an immense heart for adoption and you name it, she's walked it with her awesome crew. She joined us for Episode 032 to take a closer look at Reactive Attachment Disorder (RAD). We'll start with the basics and then take a deep dive into how RAD touches each part of the adoption triad and how you too can thrive through the seemingly impossible. We're so grateful for Cindy's transparency and the bright light that her family's story brings to the darkness that is Reactive Attachment Disorder. Maybe you suspect RAD, maybe you have a confirmed diagnosis in your family, or maybe you've never heard of it before --- no matter where you are in your adoption or foster journey, there's something here for you!

Episode Resources:
Has your family been impacted by Reactive Attachment Disorder? Do you have a favorite go-to resource you'd be willing to share? We would love to grow our resource page with options specific to this need. E-mail us at [email protected]. Together we can grow a network of resources in a space where there is still little to share!

The Main Thing:
Surprise! If you didn't catch it on our Instagram, Sarah and her family are awaiting placement in their second domestic adoption process. If you listened to our very first episode, you know how quickly placement occurred with their daughter. This time has been very different and allowed for an opportunity to build a beautiful relationship with a birth mom.
If you're open to openness, but wondering what that might look like pre-placement, Sarah's chatting about her own experience in this mama-minisode!
Everyone's story and experience are different. Each adoption and placement are unique. This is a small opportunity for us to give you, our faithful listeners, a glimpse into our own lives and how we're learning alongside you in this beautiful adventure of building families. The Main Thing:
To know the work of The Sparrow Fund and the heart of Director, Kelly Raudenbush is to understand their passion about caring for caregivers.
We were so thrilled to have Kelly join us for Episode 062 to talk about the important work happening within this organization and also address the mental load that comes with all parts of adoption. Too often we're not talking about the topics that Kelly brings to light, and so in true Two Adoptive Mamas fashion...we're bringing it to the table!
Kelly's heart for vulnerable children and the work she's leading at The Sparrow Fund is taking pre and post-adoptive care to the next level. There's something for everyone in this episode, and we know you'll find it as captivating as we did! And...Kelly is awesome. Enjoy!Episode Resources:

2 Adoptive Mamas - Parenting Adult Adoptees with Deb Kreider
play

07/26/22 • 32 min

The Main Thing:
If we've learned one thing amidst our own parenting journies, it's the value of hearing from someone who has gone before you. They've been there, done that, and had to have those conversations. It's refreshing to know we're not alone and that while we might not be in that stage now, we will eventually, and by the grace of our Heavenly Father we will find a way to thrive!
Deb Kreider is a mom who loves Jesus and holds fast to the promise of His grace and provision for her family. She and her husband built their family through adoption, and while there have been ups and downs, they wouldn't trade their journey for anything. During Episode 055 Deb shares her experience of parenting adult adoptees and even more so how adoption looks now compared to when her children were infants. Deb's honesty, transparency, and encouragement will meet you where you're at and encourage you with some timeless wisdom for when you reach "that stage" of parenting. We're so grateful for our time with her, and we know you'll benefit from it too! Episode Resources:
Check out our Two Adoptive Mamas resource list HERE. This week, we're highlighting Paul David Tripp's, Parenting: 14 Gospel Principles That Can Radically Change Your Family.

The Main Thing:
If there's one thing we can likely all agree on, it's that having some sort of system in our home just makes everything flow better. But sometimes, change happens quickly, systems have to adapt, and the day-to-day triage of managing our homes can become more than overwhelming. Well --- we have good news...
Meet Laura Hernandez --- the queen of navigating the day-to-day with "mama systems." Their proven success has transformed their own family (of 10!) rhythm and she's passionate about sharing her discoveries with others seeking similar support in this area. As an adoptive mom she has a special story to share and a message for every listener. Enjoy!

The Main Thing:
Adding to your family is a life-changing event. Whether biological, adoption or foster care, it’s a major event and everything is different thereafter. At some point, it comes time to return to “normal” or some of the responsibilities we had pre-family addition. But how? And with what support? For Episode 026 we had the privilege of sitting down with Dr. Matt Quade, Associate Professor of Management at Baylor University’s Hankamer School of Business. As a passionate educator and fellow adoptive parent he has completed and participated in extensive research opportunities pertaining to adoptive parent support. He’s joined us to share his insights and advice on how to navigate getting back to work!

Episode Resources:
To take a deeper dive into topics discussed during this episode, Matt recommended 5 Gears by Jeremie Kubicek and connecting with the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption.
