This week on the podcast, we have a remarkable guest: Joe Flores, a seasoned leader with over 30 years of construction experience and currently the President of Cooper General Contractors in Plano.
When Rachel Kennedy (E053) suggested that we ask Joe to join us on the podcast, she gave him this intro:
"Joe is an Aggie that came up through the Project Management route before transitioning to lead HR, and eventually taking over Safety, Risk, Legal, and more. He feels most at home with muddy boots, connecting with people, and finding ways to positively impact their lives."
That's perfect. Though Kevin and Stewart both knew Joe prior to this conversation, and their time spent with him affirmed the stories they had heard over the years. Joe is not just a leader; he's a leader who deeply cares about people and is eager to invest his time in helping others move their mountains.
In this week's episode, you'll have the opportunity to learn about Joe's remarkable journey, his insights into effective leadership, and how he's built a reputation for making a positive difference in the lives of those he encounters.

Despite a well-prepared prep sheet this week by Kevin, Stewart manages to wag the episode all over the studio while the guys chat with Sam Russo, Pastor at Life.Church Mansfield.
Powerful. Impactful. Noteworthy. Real and raw.
This story really has it all. Growing up in southern Louisiana in a family with an unusual story. Finding Christ and being on fire for the Church followed by a very deep, lowly valley. Moments with God that change everything. Being real with people as you struggle through seasons. The value of a REAL community. Parenting. Finding a Church home.
... it's just a conversation about life with a million stories, lessons, ideas, and growth opportunities woven all throughout the time we spent with Sam. It's not linear. It's going to hit all of you differently. But as you listen through, you're 100% money-back guaranteed to be better after listening to this episode.

17Twenty - E069  ||  Lauren Abeyta  ||  The Pegasus
play

12/06/21 • 90 min

This week we sit down in-studio with Lauren Abeyta, founder & COO at Construction Discovery Experts. As usual, the conversation winds around Lauren's story of growing up, the impact of sports in her life, ending up in Dallas, and the resulting journey to entrepreneurship. Striking in today's episode is the conversational pace with Lauren which feathers in-and-out of humorous bits and very serious life experiences, resulting in quite a few "driveway moments" where you're going to be latched to the steering wheel listening to the dialogue.

This week, Kevin and Stewart sit down with Mike Sarraille, a retired U.S. Navy SEAL officer, a graduate of the University of Texas McCombs Business School, and now a leadership instructor, speaker and strategic advisor for Echelon Front.

This week we revisit Episode 43 with Sarah Nuse, Chief Executive Officer of Tippi Toes Inc., author of Destined for Greatness, host of the Destined for Greatness Podcast, author, speaker, and business builder. Though our content isn't often repurposed, while Kevin and Stewart were taking extra laps around the episodes and checking the listening statistics, they noticed that most of you missed this episode, making it worth revisiting.
With Kevin out with his family at Disney, Stewart and his son, Hayes, record a new bumper for the episode from a super secret location, and engage in a little pre-episode banter we hope you'll enjoy before cutting to the touched-up audio from the original recording.
Get your pen and journal ready this week. Class is in back session!

After a few weeks without a guest, the 17Twenty crew returns to the studio for an in-person recording with Terri Gaber, the Professional Development Manager at Hill & Wilkinson General Contractors. As is the normal course, the conversation starts taking about who Terri is and the path to get to where she is now. But in addition to all the wisdom nuggets from the journey, the conversation centers around training, development, workforce initiatives, TEXO's involvement in problem solving, and a bevy of ideas related to solving the workforce shortage that the construction industry faces. As usual, you're going to love this episode and grab some nuggets.

Happy Halloween, Mountain Movers!
Following a little homage to Michael Jackson's 1982 smash hit Thriller, Kevin and Stewart talk through the pros/cons of a "fake it 'til you make it" mentality, the line between faking it and working to change your identity, initiating and having crucial conservations, and appreciating the seasons of life.
Hope you grab a few wisdom nuggets from this week. And y'all keep moving mountains!
