In Springtime A La Carte a young lady struggling to make a living in turn of the century New York City is working to type up menus for a German restaurant but gets distracted by the arrival of spring and thoughts of her latest suitor, who hasn't contacted her in weeks.
In Between Rounds O.Henry gives us a window by window view of a boardinghouse filled with Irish immigrants and the lives going on inside and outside- while patrolman Cleary watches and generally stays out of all the action.
