قال بعضُهم: معناه: الأمِين، وهو مَنْ آمنَ غيرَه مِنَ الخوف. وقال بعضهم: مُهيمن معنى مؤيمن، والهاء بدل من الهمزة. وقيل: إنَّ"المهيمن": هو الرقيب الحافظ. وقيل: إنه الشاهد؛ تقول: فلانٌ مُهيمني على فلان، إذا كان شاهدُك عليه.
