Looking Back To The Future

8 Episodes

|

Avg Length 61m

Latest episode 2 years ago

A funny, relevant and inspiring look at life and what we can learn from our past experiences to help us find health and happiness in the now and the future. Two old school pals reconnected after over 20 years to reflect on shared experiences from our childhood as well as the individual experiences and perspectives picked up over the last 20 years as we both have followed our own different paths. One thing we do have in common is in our own experiences as men who have faced adversity and had our own mental health challenges, as well as have a passion to help others and promote positivity, as well as to well and truly take a hammer to the stigma surrounding poor mental wellbeing. Ryan has recently turned 40 and Scott is due to hit 40 in under 100 days time. Now of course, none of us know how long we will live for, but the average life expectancy in the UK is somewhere around the 80 year old mark, so you could say we are at the halfway point, or to use a football analogy, it is just half-time. We will discuss the big questions, and the smaller ones too. There will be stories that are funny, sad, cringey...as we will lay ourselves bare and share from the heart, as well as offer our opinions from the head. There will also be tangents, music and some ideas for your own Mental Health toolkit. From time to time, we will be joined by guests too. So, why the title, 'Looking back to the Future'? Quite simply, we believe in the lessons learnt in life and that by embracing past experiences and our imperfections, that we can better understand the future and how we can lead a good life. It is not about living in the past or being filled with resentment, but it is also not about being in denial about the past, and it is about learning from and laughing about the life lived to date. No regrets, just lessons. And after all, who doesn't love a bit of nostalgia! This Russian proverb sums it up pretty well we feel "If you keep one eye on the past, then you are blind in one eye; but if you keep two eyes on the future then you are blind in both." Life is beautiful and challenging in equal measures, a bit like our podcast show! One minute it might make you laugh, the next it might make you cry, and who knows you may relate to much of it and find strength and ideas to introduce in your own life. Please give us a try and let us know what you think. Scott & Ryan - [email protected] #Life #LifeLessons #MentalHealth #Positivity #Nostalgia #LifeBegins #BacktotheFuture

Living with intention, particularly amidst the noise of adult life, can feel elusive at best. Without even noticing, we get swept up in the noise as we try to just put one foot in front of the other and check off the next task. I don't want to live like that. I want to mine the full depths of my and our adventure in this world. Whether it’s in a book, song, poem, podcast, or coming out of somebody’s mouth - I often hear or read some wise words that shake something awake inside of me. The words might be affirming, challenging, the perfect capture of a hard to describe idea, or a swift kick in the pants. When I take the time to just sit with it...to pause and think deeply about the words and about my relationship to those words...that’s when I’m able to find the meaning that helps me think and act differently. So in this podcast, I’ll bring that experience to you - wise words that a range of people from all walks of life have shared about living a more intentional, deeply experienced life. And we will have some dialogue with others around what those words might mean. It will be a structured space where we can slow down and maybe even get disrupted in ways you and I were needing.

The Bible read to classical music daily. The concept is simple. The Bible is read over suitable classical music by the Greats and never heard before music composed and performed by John Richmond. All of John's music can be found on all major streaming platforms. Search for "J Richmond." All links to the albums can be found at www.ClassicallySpeaking.co.ukSeason 1 has the Bible read over classical music by famous composers eg Beethoven and Rachmaninov. Season two focuses on the New Testament with a passage being read every day for a year. You could read the passage for yourself first. Then listen to it being read by John allowing the Bible passage to come alive in your mind. The idea is to reflect on the Bible passage, improving your mood as you use the music and readings to meditate and clear your mind from everyday noise. Take deep breaths, focus on your senses and listen to your body. Christian meditation encourages you to also look towards God, as well as into yourself. The world is getting busier and there are so many things demanding our attention. Now is the time to take “you time” and focus on what is important. There are no sermons or commentaries. No-one gives their opinions or preaches. It is simply the Bible being read. You connect with the passages anyway you want to. Get to know the Bible in a year in a new and exciting way.A new episode is published every day at 9am.You can become a Yahway member and gain access to all the passages with timings, early releases, bonus videos and you can request your favourite Bible passage to be read. You can also ask John to record a personal message for you, for example wishing a loved one a Happy birthday or happy anniversary.John studied his Masters of Theology at Glasgow University and is also a Religious Education teacher in a secondary school in Scotland. He has also written a commentary on the Bible that can be ordered from Amazon called “What’s the Good News for today?”Whether you have faith, no faith or if you are developing your faith, these podcasts are for you. Become a Yahway member and enjoy lots of benefits including listening to bonus tracks, downloading the readings with timings, requesting a Bible passage to be read by John and even ask John to record a personal greeting for you or a loved one.
