Body Bangin' - Ep #26: Keep the Lawsuits Away & Make Your Website ADA Compliant with accessiBe

As a business owner I understand the importance of staying ahead of any legal issues as best as possible. You do NOT want to get "caught with your pants down"!
When I found out that body shops were being targeted because their websites were not ADA compliant I jumped into action. I found "accessiBe" which is a program that works in the backend of your website to make it ADA compliant. That is a very simplified explanation of what it does but you get the gist.
I suggest all my clients sign up for this to protect themselves!
**There's a 99.9% chance your website is NOT ADA compliant unless you are paying for a program like accessiBe.
For only $50/month you can make sure that anyone with disabilities can peruse your website comfortably which allows you to service a whole new group of people! Big Win!!! Plus, it keeps you from having to pay a hefty fine if an "ambulance chaser" decides to try and sue you.
To purchase accessiBe for your website just click here using my affiliate link:
https://accessibe.com/a/bjhghwkIt's easy to purchase and easy to install. If you have any questions feel free to reach out to me directly or to Refael at accessiBe: refael@accessibe.comCheck out my website to see how it looks. You can see the blue icon in the bottom right of any page on my site: https://mickiwoods.comFeel free to click it and play around with it!

Body Bangin' - Ep #58: Use the Appraisal Clause to Get Paid with Bill Walkowiak

If you've never seen Billy Walkowiak's posts on social media then you are missing out! Billy is a major advocate of the consumers and I like to think of people like him as the super-heroes in our industry. You should see the wins he is able to get for our consumers!
As a veteran of the collision industry, he owns Collision Safety Consultants where he specializes in appraisal clause, total loss, diminished value and post-repair inspections.
Tune in for some INCREDIBLE information that most of us do NOT know:

  • The body shop can not invoke the appraisal clause
  • The customer can only invoke the appraisal clause on their own policy. Even if they are hit by someone else - file a claim with their own insurance company.
  • Know the power between a 1st party and 3rd party claim.
  • Do you know the total loss law & threshold in your state? Most don't!
  • Under a 1st party claim the insurance company can total a vehicle at will
  • Some shops have 3-4 customers using Billy PER WEEK to keep their customers from having to pay out of pocket for the difference

Body Bangin' - Ep #59: Can a DRP Fix Cars Correctly? with Jerald Stiele

Jerald Stiele is an owner of 3 body shops in Minnesota - two Collision Center 1 shops & Hopkins Auto Body 1. They have 8 OEM Certifications/Recommendations and are a DRP for a couple of insurance companies AND he says it's possible to do so WHILE repairing the vehicle properly (according to OE recommendations).
He is frustrated by the generalization that shops can't be a DRP shop AND fix cars properly. How is that possible? Listen in as he shares how they handle their DRP relationships.
Jerald is a huge proponent for getting involved in your local trade schools and interning students of these schools to aid in bringing people to the collision industry in general and also to his shop!
The first step he recommends is to reach out to your local trade school and ask how you can help them. It's NOT that hard people! We all need to work together to start making our industry more appealing!
Listen to the podcast interview with a high school tech student that interned at Caliber Collision and see what he thought of all of it so you can do something similar in your shop:

Body Bangin' - Ep #60: Glue Pulling is Changing the Game! with Danny Hacker

Glue Pulling might not be taking over the world but it's definitely changing the game and as shop owners, managers, techs, etc - we owe it to ourselves to be informed about the incredible things on the market that can help us do a safer, better repair! Danny Hacker is on the show today and as a veteran of the industry and shop owner as well as working for KECO, Danny is so knowledgeable about glue pulling and shares some key pieces of info that shops really need to listen to.
We talk about the misconceptions of glue pulling. PDR is NOT GPR! What can you do? What can't you do? How do you get paid for what you do? Why do EV manufacturers prefer glue pulling? If you don't prep your panels properly you won't get correct or consistent results!
Here are a few videos of Danny on glue pulling...

Body Bangin' - Ep #71: Pre & Post-Measuring with Chad Dellinger

Thank you to our sponsor - Lombard Equipment! Selling new and refurbished equipment from Maine to Miami and helping anyone anywhere with their equipment questions. :)
https://lombardequipment.com/
Car O Liner is a sponsor of the SE Collision Conference and we talk today with Chad Dellinger.
Chad says that we will see pre-measuring and post-measuring needed on every vehicle so it's important to do the trainings to be able to repair the vehicles the way they were meant to be repaired by the OE procedures.
He talks about the changes needed to document the time needed to do the pre and post-measurements so you can get paid properly on those.
The coolest thing they are highlighting and the most popular piece at the conference is called the Speed Bench. It's for light pulls, a 5500 pound lift capacity, 5 ton pull capacity with a small footprint at 12 feet long and is only 4 inches off the ground.
Your body man wouldn't have to leave their stall to use it!
Check it out here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BGA_1KRoGUk
Car O Liner is known for their measuring systems and their information is input manually. They've been doing this since in the US since 1987 so have a ton of cars in the database. It's all still made in Sweden!
I have huge respect for trainers like Chad who continue to learn and train to keep all of us in the loop!

Body Bangin' - Ep #85: Overcoming Objections with Barry Dorn & Ron Reichen

Thank you to our sponsor - Lombard Equipment! They have incredible customer service and their 5-star reviews give you a taste of the service AFTER the sale. These guys are amazing if you are looking for new or refurbished equipment!
https://lombardequipment.com/
We are talking with 2 all-stars in our industry today! We've got Ron Reichen - president of Precision Body & Paint that has 5 locations in Oregon.
We are also talking with Barry Dorn - owner of Dorn's Body & Paint, Dorn's Automotive Service, and Dorn's Specialized Transport in Mechanicsville, VA.
Ron & Barry had a panel discussion at the SE Collision Conference called "Repairer to Repairer" and they share with us some of the HOT TOPICS that shops wanted to chat about.
1) Overcoming Objections.
My favorite quote from Ron, "We can't fix today's vehicles in a dungeon with a rock and a stick for peanuts."

  • establishing yourself as the expert (taking into account the subconscious impressions). WE ARE THE EXPERTS - we need to appear as such and present ourselves as such.
  • bucking the indoctrination
  • pull the OE procedures
  • read them
  • provide the needed documentation
  • know the policy language and limitations & educate the guest
  • provide a repair plan - stop with the photo estimates

2) Combating the "Lack of Talent"

  • creating a culture of development
  • marketing to your people internally
  • know your people and interact with them
  • be a part of your shop's every day activities
  • hands-on with your people at all times
  • recruit internally first
  • pair new team members with a mentor
  • "date a few times before marriage"
  • key point is their personality and their attitude

3) Blend Study - You can take advantage of this TODAY!
The study found that blending a panel takes 31.59% more time than a full refinish of the same panel, on average, rather than the 50% less time allocated in the three estimating systems.
