The Nook Podcast - October Series Promo: I SUCK AT PRAYER

As a follow up to the series about regular bible reading, I will be bringing a series of shows all about prayer...

  • What is it?
  • What is it not?
  • How can I have a dialogue with the Creator of everything?

If you struggle with prayer, I hope that you learn along with me as we dive into this topic!
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:6-7

The Nook Podcast - When God says "Go" - Stephanie Smith

TV News is an interesting world; fast paced, ever-shifting, and moving place to place. Stephanie Smith was working in a big TV market and initially had designs on staying... but that's about the time that God told her that it was time to move on.
He will do that; give you your next move without telling you what's beyond that. While it may seem crazy to some, that is exactly what faith and obedience are all about.
Check out Stephanie's Instagram feed.

The Nook Podcast - Insights of a Police Chaplain with Jared Altic

This episode takes you behind the police crime scene tape into situations where people are in need of someone who can show great compassion and care. My guest, Jared Altic, is a chaplain with the Kansas City, Kansas Police Department. He's also a pastor at Wyandotte County Christian Church.
Anyone in this kind of work has to rely on a calling to be present for people who might be dealing with their worst day ever, as well as being available to police officers who are in the trenches trying to keep the peace and solve horrendous crimes.
Check out Jared's podcast, "Hey Chaplain"

The Nook Podcast - Dirty Little Secret - Part 1 - The Confession - Breaking Free From Pornography

Statistics show that nearly 70% of 10 men and 25% of women struggle with an addiction to pornography.

Those are difficult numbers to consider... and sadly, those statistics don’t change much when it comes to those who claim a faith in Christ.
In this series, I will introduce you to Mike, a man whose porn addiction began in high school, and his wife, Erin... who had been led to believe that her husband didn’t have this problem.
To begin this series, we hear from Mike. He shares about how his first exposure to porn as a young boy was a catalyst to full addiction as a teen. Convinced that it was just a phase that he would grow out of, he could not have imagined how difficult it would be to stop, or how devastating his confession would be for his wife.
Episode-related resources:
The entire message from Pastor Mike Todd that was mentioned in this episode.
If you are looking for help with unhealthy sexual behavior, please check out Pure Desire. Their mission is to provide hope, freedom and healing from sexual brokenness through Jesus Christ.
Also, the “I Am Second” organization has teamed up with Joshua Broome to make a free, on-line study available; 10 Steps to Get Freedom From Pornography.
XXXchurch was one of the first organizations that took on the problem of pornography head on, even when others chose to ignore it. They have great resources and connections available for those needing help.
Opening theme song; "Walk in the Valley" by Ross King©2022 Ross King Music - Used with special permissionLyrics:I was made to walk in the valley
I was built to stand in the storm
There’s a peace deep inside me
That can outlast any war
I have faced the dark and the danger
They can’t scare me anymore
I was made to walk in the valley
I was built to stand in the storm

The Nook Podcast - Worship in Spirit and Truth; Part 1 - Jen Smale

In this new series, we will be looking at how we can make worshiping God a greater priority in our lives, understanding what it means and, why we should do it every day.
Kicking things off, I get to introduce you to Jen Smale; she is a worship leader at 29:11 Church in Tempe, Arizona as well as a co-host of the Worship Leader Probs podcast. We discuss how to model worship for our own cultures and what we should know about the people leading worship at our own churches.
But the time is coming—indeed it’s here now—when true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth. The Father is looking for those who will worship him that way. For God is Spirit, so those who worship him must worship in spirit and in truth.”
–John 4:23-24 NLT
