  • Dealing with imposter syndrome for young people
  • Figure out what you want to do
  • Be responsible for your own goals
  • Internal vs External Motivation: Finding the right balance
  • What brings you joy?

QUOTES

Ryan: "This is what I tell my athletes: 'When you graduate college, you are so much more than just a division one football player or woman's basketball player, or gymnastics or baseball player. You are a unique individual and you just have to find the next challenge.’"

Rob: "A lot of times we have great ideas. We have these things we want to do. But when the imposter syndrome sets in, it's that because we live in an influencer lifestyle and influencer society, we think it's easy. And it's not, and no one sees the unglamorous side of when we put in the work and the 80-hour weeks and the early mornings or dealing with customer service."

Ryan: "When I look in the mirror, I know I'm really good at what I do, no matter what other people might think or what's happened to me. I know I'm really good at what I do because I care and I love it and I'm driven."

Ryan: "External motivation is great and you have to have a support system around you. That's a huge piece of motivation. That's why as coaches we have 10 position coaches, you got a head coach, you have GAs, you have a bunch of people around the organization for football to help motivate. And we need that support system. But you have to internalize and drive yourself."

Rob: "Many times, when we're not motivated, it's because we're doing things we don't care about. We're just going through the motions."

The Bear Necessities of Entrepreneurship - Jumping In Your Canoe and Owning Your Journey with Walker McKay, Founder of No BS Sales
play

01/27/22 • 43 min

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Life is like riding a raft, rowboat, or canoe
  • No BS Sales: The result of a decision to stop making excuses
  • Hard times, asking for help, and taking a leap of faith
  • Sellers' transformation: Be sincerely curious and understand people

QUOTES

Rob: "I think that's such a big lesson that, at any stage in your journey whether you're 18, 27, 32, 49, 61, asking for help is not a bad thing and it can be the opportunity that you need to grow."

Walker: "I had to take everything I knew, put it down, put it in a system, and make it work. And that step, that me stepping out with, I mean, I just took a leap of faith. That's what's made the difference is because they forced me to do the hard shit and not just pull stuff out of my ass as what I was doing before."

Walker: "What I believe is that we need to be having real conversations with people. We need to be having conversations where the salesperson is sincerely curious. They don't go in to educate. They go in to be educated."

The Bear Necessities of Entrepreneurship - Don't Overthink, Take Action, and Learn By Doing with 4x Entrepreneur Collin Mitchell
play

03/03/22 • 55 min

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Moving from being a VP to an Entrepreneur
  • Founding his first company
  • Challenges in building his first business
  • Balancing personal relationships and running a business
  • Start of podcasting and co-founding Salescast
  • There are about 2.7 million podcasts today
  • Building a podcast community
  • The plan for Salescast in 2022
  • Salescast being a community enabling people to share their story
  • Collin’s final advise

QUOTES

Collin: “The short answer is I'm not a good employee. Yeah, you know, entrepreneurs, I think have some similar traits, right, we're typically a little bit stubborn, you know, have a lot of drive and motivation and don't like being kept in a box of thinking outside of that box.”

Rob: “I mean, I think there's no right or wrong way. On who you partner with, there's tons of stories, and it could be a solo founder, multiple founder and their stats saying like people invest in multiple founders more than solo founders.”

Rob: “ The way we consume content and the way we consume podcasts has just evolved with the evolution of technology. And I think it's still a great time to have a podcast to leverage that for many different ways and things you want to do, whether that's, you know, driving sales and potential clients by starting relationship through a podcast and selling but driving that relationship to the keynote topics that you want to talk about to, you know, try to make it into more of a monetization platform and a really kind of fun show.”

Collin: “ We thought everybody should use their podcast to prospect or, you know, call it prospect, but really build relationships. And not everybody wants to use it that way. We've started to learn the different ways that people can use a podcast to drive revenue. And we've started to identify who we serve best and who we don't.”

Rob: “ And the lessons that many of us need to learn is that we can create businesses to serve everyone. But we don't need to, we got to niche out, we got to find that authentic, you can call it your tribe, whatever, right riches and niches, you need to find kind of where you can go deep before you can go wide.”

Collin: “I still believe, as an entrepreneur, like sales is the number one skill that you should have. And if you don't, let's say you're a technical founder and you build stuff, then I think it makes a lot of sense to have a co-founder that sells, because you could have the best product, you could have the best service, if nobody can sell it, then nobody cares.”

Collin: “Just get started. maybe you just start it as a side hustle first. What skills do you need in order to start whatever business you're thinking about. Or maybe you've already started and you're trying to get to the next level to go all in on entrepreneurship and maybe give up the 9 to 5. Surround yourself with some like-minded people. Have some people that you can seek counsel from. Don't try to do it on your own.”

This latest episode of The Bear Necessities of Entrepreneurship is going to be kick-ass as Rob Napoli welcomes none other than the host and author of Revenue Harvest, Nigel Green. Nigel is a successful Fortune 300 healthcare executive who also engaged in entrepreneurship for the past 15 years, whose achievements include building healthcare sales teams that produced $50M+ in annual revenue. Now, Nigel is the Head of Sales for Affirm Health and also spends his time training and growing the next generation of sales leaders.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • What made Nigel go for sales
  • From working in a sales team to coaching sales teams
  • The performance vs. relationship dilemma
  • Evaluating talent relating to sales leadership
  • Nigel’s Superpower

QUOTES

Nigel: “I was never going to be one that was like, do one more call, or I was never going to crush the activity. I just was really good at relating to people.”

Nigel: “I have to go in and say I don't care what your sales process is, how your ideal customer wants to buy, and let's start mapping our behavior around what they want us to do.”

Nigel: “Your job as leaders, you got to really know not only what the problems are that your customers face, but how they want you to solve them.”

Nigel: “I don't need to go hire a bunch of people that have this quote, unquote, competency of industry experience, because none of that really matters. I'm hiring someone that's going to build a team based on character and chemistry.”

Nigel: “That's my superpower, just who do I know that can help me, and then boom, I can get it done.”
