Horror has a new name: Daphne. A brutal, enigmatic woman stalks a high school basketball team in a reimagining of the slasher genre by the New York Times bestselling author of Bird Box.

It’s the last summer for Kit Lamb: The last summer before college. The last summer with her high school basketball team, and with Dana, her best friend. The last summer before her life begins.

But the night before the big game, one of the players tells a ghost story about Daphne, a girl who went to their school many years ago and died under mysterious circumstances. Some say she was murdered, others that she died by her own hand. And some say that Daphne is a murderer herself. They also say that Daphne is still out there, obsessed with revenge, and will appear to kill again anytime someone thinks about her.

After Kit hears the story, her teammates vanish, one by one, and Kit begins to suspect that the stories about Daphne are real . . . and to fear that her own mind is conjuring the killer. Now it’s a race against time as Kit searches for the truth behind the legend and learns to face her own fears—before the summer of her lifetime becomes the last summer of her life.

Mixing a nostalgic coming-of-age story and an instantly iconic female villain with an innovative new vision of classic horror, Daphne is an unforgettable thriller as only Josh Malerman could imagine it

House of Mystery Radio on NBC - TOM WESCOTT - BANK HOLIDAY MURDERS (JACK THE RIPPER INTERVIEWS #2)
play

02/23/20 • 63 min

WINNER - Indie Reader Award for Best True Crime Book

WINNER - Independent Publisher (IPPY) Bronze Medal Award for Best History Book 2014

FINALIST - Indie Excellence Award for Best True Crime Book (second place)*

Jack the Ripper stalked the streets of London’s East End from August through November of 1888 in what is dubbed the ‘Autumn of Terror’. However, the grisly ripping of Polly Nichols on August 31st was not the first unsolved murder of the year. The April murder of Emma Smith and the August murder of Martha Tabram both occurred on bank holidays. They baffled the police and press alike and were assumed by the original investigators to have been the first murders in the series. Were they correct?

In this provocative work of literary archeology, author Tom Wescott places these early murders in their proper historical context and digs to unearth new evidence and hard facts not seen in over 125 years.

The Bank Holiday Murders is the only book of its kind. It eschews the tired approach of unsatisfying ‘final solutions’ in favor of solid research, logical reasoning and new information. The clues followed are not drawn from imagination but from the actual police reports and press accounts of the time. The questions asked by Wescott are ones first suggested by the original investigators but lost to time until now. The answers provided are compelling and sometimes explosive.

Among the revelations are:

  • The true history of the 'Eddowes Shawl' or 'Ripper Shawl' discussed in the new book 'Naming Jack the Ripper' by Russell Edwards.
  • New information linking the murders of Smith & Tabram to the same killer(s).
  • Proof that the police did not believe key witnesses in either case.
  • Proof that at least one of these witnesses was working with the murderer.
  • New evidence connecting many of the victims that may lead to their actual slayers.
  • Information on Emily Horsnell, the ACTUAL first Whitechapel murder victim.
  • The hidden truth of ‘Leather Apron’ and its role in unraveling the Ripper mystery.
  • Proof of a corrupt police sergeant who thwarted the investigation. Was he protecting the Ripper?
  • Much more.

The Bank Holiday Murders: The True Story of the First Whitechapel Murders brings us closer than ever to the actual truth behind the Jack the Ripper story and is sure to appeal to fans of Paul Begg, Stewart P. Evans, Philip Sugden, Donald Rumbelow, Ann Rule, Patricia Cornwell (Chasing the Ripper) as well as readers of Victorian true crime, true life mysteries and historical cold cases in genera

When news broke of three-year-old Caylee Anthony's disappearance from her home in Florida in July 2008, there was a huge outpouring of sympathy across the nation. The search for Caylee made front-page headlines. But there was one huge question mark hanging over the case: the girl's mother.

As the investigation continued and suspicions mounted, Casey became the prime suspect. In October, based on new evidence against Casey—her erratic behavior and lies, her car that showed signs of human decomposition—a grand jury indicted the young single mother. Then, two months later, police found Caylee's remains a quarter of a mile away from the Anthony home. Casey pled not guilty to charges of murder in the first degree, and she continues to protest her innocence. Did she or didn't she kill Caylee? Mommy's Little Girl is the story of one of the most shocking, confusing, and horrific crimes in modern American history.

House of Mystery Radio on NBC - THOMAS HORAN - ZODIAC KILLER HOAX PT.2 (ZODIAC KILLER SERIES)
play

02/23/20 • 44 min

This is the new, complete, single-book edition! If you previously read the three separate books, you do NOT need to buy this one again!

According to the actual police department files and evidence from the original murder cases, there was no "Zodiac Killer," only some phony letters to the SF Chronicle claiming credit for some unrelated murders, followed by an exploitative book full of falsehoods by Robert Graysmith (real name: Robert Smith, Jr). This book thoroughly debunks Graysmith's 1986 book ZODIAC, explores in detail the cultural and literary environment that inspired the original Zodiac hoax, and explains what really happened in each murder, who real suspects were, what the real evidence was--and who REALLY wrote the "Zodiac Killer" letters!

This new edition includes ALL THREE original books: The Great Zodiac Killer Hoax of 1986, The Great Zodiac Killer Hoax of 1969, and the Myth of the Zodiac Killer!

Shawn Rech, the director of another documentary, "Convicting a Murderer," told Fox News' Dana Perino on "The Daily Briefing" Tuesday that the bombshell confession was captured on tape and has been turned over to investigators who "need to dig in."

Steven Avery, 57, and his nephew, Brenden Dassey, 29, were both convicted of Halbach's murder and sentenced to life in prison. They both maintained their innocence on "Making a Murderer," which examined the conspiracy theories surrounding their convictions and explored whether law enforcement framed the two.

Rech, who has not released the inmate's name, called the new confession "very strange," and explained how it fell into his production team's lap.

Our enduring love of vampires - the bad boys (and girls) of paranormal fantasy - has persisted for centuries. Despite being bloodthirsty, heartless killers, vampire stories commonly carry erotic overtones that are missing from other paranormal or horror stories.

Even when monstrous teeth are sinking into pale, helpless throats - especially then - vampires are sexy. But why? In A History Of The Vampire In Popular Culture, author Violet Fenn takes the reader through the history of vampires in ‘fact’ and fiction, their origins in mythology and literature and their enduring appeal on TV and film. We’ll delve into the sexuality - and sexism - of vampire lore, as well as how modern audiences still hunger for a pair of sharp fangs in the middle of the night.
