The best podcasts for short stories.

Who am I?

I am a writer. I started my career in television, writing for shows like The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Star Trek: Voyager and The New Addams Family, then moved into writing novels. Recently, I have also started podcasting my short stories on the award-winning fiction podcast, Bedtime Stories for Insomniacs. I love audio books. But sometimes, I just want to listen to a story, something to fill the time on a commute or settle me down before bed. As a writer myself, when I began podcasting my stories, I sought out and became a fan of other story podcasts.

My Show

What is my podcast about and/or how does it relate to the playlist topic you chose?

Bedtime Stories for Insomniacs is an anthology of stories NOT to fall asleep by. They cover several genres--horror, mystery, science fiction, humor--and hopefully each tale is a soundscape of pure entertainment. Listening to other authors presenting their works in interesting and innovative audio formats not only entertains me, but provides inspiration for my own podcast.

What is my podcast playlist about?

Although I do feature my novels in a serialized audiobook format on the podcast, the only thing my playlist is about is entertaining the listener. I want to carry you away to somewhere else for 20 or 30 minutes, take you to someplace scare, or funny, or answer a question like, "what would happen if that robot vacuum you talked to talked back?" Bedtime Stories for Insomniacs is named that because these are not tales that will lull you to sleep. They grab a hold of you, and don't let go until your finished. And then you want to listen to just one more...

The podcasts I picked and why

1. Scott Sigler Slices: SLAY Season 2

Scott Sigler is the godfather of fiction podcasters. He started serializing audiobook versions of his novels back in 2006 and has since become a New York Times Bestselling author and continues producing new stories for the podcast to this day!

Dark tales harvested from the mind of #1 New York Times bestselling author Scott Sigler. From major-release novels to podcast-exclusive content, these "slices from the Siglerverse" — each a full-length tale — will immerse you in his twisted, intertwining worlds of horror and scifi. But beware, for his work is so addictive his fans call themselves the “Junkies,” always trembling for their next fiction fix. The first hit is always free... Current season: SLAY Season 2: Hatchet Man, the continuation of Lincoln's story from the first season of Scott Sigler's Slices. Get more fiction from Scott at https://ScottSigler.com

Got a minute? Well...maybe three or four? Then step up and let me tell you a story that puts the FLASH in flash fiction. In today’s hurry-up world, we’re all frazzled by our jobs, families, and those dang domestic responsibilities. So who’s got time for something like a story? Right? Just give me those three or four minutes. I’ll prune away the flowery adjectives. Kill the adverbs and cut the story down to its roots. Then lay out a smack-in-the-forehead finish. Not EXACTLY an ambush, but about as close as I can come without losing my literary license.

Bob's Short Story Hour is a podcast dedicated to telling stories of contemporary and classic authors in order to accomplish three things: preserve the art of storytelling, get a variety of new works out to the listeners featuring a variety of genres and authors, and to promote the works of little-known/up-and-coming independent authors. We also feature independent music. Visit www.bobsshortstoryhour.com to learn more about the show and for info on how to submit stories/music to be included on the project. Thank you for listening everyone!

5. Into the Night Anthology

Why this podcast?

Stories by Caroline Giammanco narrated by Nari Kwak. This is a multi genre podcast most similar to my own Bedtime Stories for Insomniacs. The combination of Caroline's stories and Nari's narrations is a great listen.
