Podcaster Q&A
Tell us about yourself – what is your background?
I have been passionate about Christian Apologetics for over 20 years. I love to read classic books and study theology, philosophy and the writings and ideas of the Founding Fathers.
Why did you get into podcasting?
This is largely therapeutic for me. My podcasts is a means for me to verbally process through ideas and help me to think through things more thoroughly.
How did the idea for the show come about?
It is a common phrase today that "politics is downstream from culture." However, I have also heard that "culture is downstream from theology." The more I think through this, the more true it seems to be. Years ago, I had started by blogging about this sort of thing, but it seemed that doing a podcast was a good next step in my own evolution.
What do you hope listeners take from the show?
Hopefully, if nothing else, people will realize a couple of simple things: 1. Christianity is reasonable and worthy of thinking about 2. Our culture influences us to be shallow and emotional in our approach to ideas 3. We very rarely known as much as we might think we do about anything.
What's been the biggest challenge for you?
Finding the time to create good content has been the biggest challenge. I hope that the content quality has continued to improve, though the frequency of delivery has slowed down a bit in order to write, re-write, edit, edit more, etc. before actually recording and releasing new episodes.
How can your listeners support your show?
As with any podcast, the biggest thing is visibility. The more people listen and share the show with others in order to increase the audience, the better it is for the show. Also, especially for newer podcasters, feedback is critical. It is very difficult to improve if one does not know what improvements would be helpful for listeners. Of course, it's always best to give feedback in a respectful tone as just flaming people will simply just cause that feedback to be ignored.
Any future plans that you'd like to share?
I do have some thoughts on some additional things I'd like to do in the future, but those ideas are still in their gestational state, so it would be premature to air them out at this time.
Anything else you'd like to share?
While I currently do not have formal training in many of the topics covered, I am in the process of getting a Masters degree in order to continue to improve the quality and delivery of the content. This is all being done on my own time, with my own money and in the time between other responsibilities like work, family, church and school.
