Podcaster Q&A

Tell us about yourself – what is your background?

I started out as an activist at 12 years old. My desire to make the world a better place was rooted early. That passion led me to work in HIV outreach and organizing before going to grad school. I did my grad work in Political Pscyhology with a focus on the impact of multicultural education on civic identity development. I worked as a college professor and political researcher for several decades. At 40, I became disabled and changed career paths. I am now an award-winning writer and podcaster.

Why did you get into podcasting?

Lots of people asked me to start a show. I repeatedly heard "I'd love to be a fly on the wall for your conversations." I took my skills as an interviewer and researcher and applied them to creating great episodes with folks working toward libearation for all. My passion is bringing activists, researchers, and educators to new audiences and helping translate the geeky and nerdy work into something accessible for all.

How did the idea for the show come about?

Pressure. LOL. And I wanted to capture both a sense of humor, my work in sex positivity, and body liberation. Thus, Fat Chicks on Top was born.

What do you hope listeners take from the show?

I hope they take a bit of inspiration and knowledge from each episode.

What's been the biggest challenge for you?

My health. I have a dynamic disability. There are times I feel great for a week or a month and times I am laid up in bed for weeks on end. Consistency in production is definitely a challenge.
