Podcaster Q&A

Tell us about yourself – what is your background?

I was a professional portrait photographer before becoming a caregiver and podcast host. Family memories are one of the most important things in my life. My Mom had Alzheimer's for 20 years, her Mom had vascular dementia for 5, and my maternal great-grandmother had dementia. As a result, we've lost a lot of family history. Additionally, I'm a "dog Mom", cyclist, paddle boarder (w/the dog), traveler, and handmade card cafter.

Why did you get into podcasting?

As a caregiver for her own mother and determined to prevent Alzheimer's disease in herself, she launched the Fading Memories podcast in May 2018.

How did the idea for the show come about?

While caring for her Mom with Alzheimer's, Jennifer became determined to find the best practices of caregiving. However, research and reading books did not address the gamut of questions she had. Knowing she was not alone in this quest for support, she started Fading Memories. This is a podcast to share her experiences and knowledge. Jennifer brings her experiences to the public with a passion for helping others navigate a similar journey & be a knowledgeable friend people can turn to.

What do you hope listeners take from the show?

Fading Memories is a podcast empowering dementia caregivers with advice, support, and a community. Host Jennifer Fink shares personal experiences and expert insights on topics such as communication and managing stress to help caregivers provide the best possible care.

Alzheimer's & other dementia-causing diseases is a huge and growing challenge. The more we educate the population, the better we can support those living with one of these diseases and their caregivers. Supporting shows like mine will benefit society greatly in the long run.
