Latest episode 1 year ago

Marlon and Jake Read Dead People is a podcast hosted by the Man Booker Prize-winning and internationally bestselling author Marlon James and his editor, Jake Morrissey, Executive Editor at Riverhead Books. In each episode, Marlon and Jake talk about authors—specifically dead authors. Authors they like. Authors they hate. Great books, terrible books, and books they love that you’d never expect them to. As a writer and an editor, Marlon and Jake have read thousands of books between them, and they’re not shy in expressing their opinions about them. Sometimes they’ll agree, sometimes they won’t, but in every episode, they’ll tell you what they think— uncensored and with no holds barred. (That’s why the authors have to be dead.) So, listen along to hear about the spectacularly good, the hilariously bad, and the brutally honest.
Grapevine

In August 2022, at a packed school board meeting in Grapevine, Texas, a mom approaches the microphone and describes the exact nightmare that Republican politicians have been warning about. She accuses a teacher of convincing her child to change genders. As a result, she says, “I lost my son.” But when NBC News reporters Mike Hixenbaugh and Antonia Hylton look into this mother’s allegations, they find a different story: of a transgender child desperately wanting to be heard, a mother determined to put God first — and an English teacher caught in the middle. And they discover this isn’t just a story about one broken family. It’s also a story about a fringe religious movement wielding newfound power and the revival of a long-simmering quest by evangelicals to remake American education based on their version of biblical values. From NBC News Studios and the team behind the Peabody Award-winning series Southlake, Grapevine is a podcast about faith and power — and what it means to protect children — in an American suburb.

The professional storytellers at StoryLink Radio, known as Seanchaí, are committed to bringing stories to Life through the spoken word as in traditional oral storytelling. We present stories of many genres... Ancient Myths and Legends, short stories, full length novels, science fiction and high fantasy, philosophy, traditions, drama, fiction, non-fiction, romance, theatre, ghosts & haunts, suspense, stories of the strange, and more! Our stories may be drawn from contemporary sources, or from some dusty near-forgotten tome. Regardless it is a treat like no other to listen to the stories & tales presented in a "live" format with the emotion and feeling a true professional storyteller brings. The Seanchai's job is much more than purely entertainment. The Seanchaí is the custodian of stories and traditions in need of preservation, and possesses the skill to ignore the inhibitions of modern day stifled conversations and instead focuses their attention on presenting those of us with keen ears - with the stories of the past, sometimes the present and, perhaps, even of what's to come. The infectious tones that we hear from their lips allow us to momentarily slip away from the modern day and very real world and conjure up images of Yesterday, Tomorrow, and Fantasy. So enter here, and let us be your Seanchaí for a time!
