The best podcasts to Improve Emotional Intelligence And Better Our Relationships

Share

Who am I?

We are a community and resource toolkit that promotes awareness, discussion, and education on how to better our interpersonal relationships. Pertinent topics include emotional intelligence, science and research, love and attachment, mental health and therapy, psychology, and personal growth and development. We have curated lists of recommendations and suggested resources that we believe would be helpful, plus original content of our own. Aside from having an online presence, we are also part of a local social group. Better Relationships Project (BRP) was created out of an essential need to understand the inner workings of healthy, fulfilling, and sustainable relationships. Research has shown that the key to happiness is determined by the quality and meaningfulness of our relationships. However, the most important relationship is the one we have with ourselves. After struggling with various facets of interpersonal relationships, I began my journey of growth and discovery. Seeking to understand the “why” and looking for essential tools to assist, I sought books, videos, audio clips, and any resources that were readily available. These materials were the initial catalyst needed to build this project. Combining deep introspection with lengthy research, I learned to truly appreciate the complexities that make up relationships and the framework behind them. Hearing stories and experiences of the challenges others were facing, I realized that many of us do not fully understand the intricacies nor were taught the necessary skills needed for healthy relationships. I started to recognize how repetitive patterns and behaviors can influence our expectations around relationships. In turn, these beliefs can affect the dynamics that we have with our partners, family, friends, and even colleagues. A common reason why relationships are so challenging is because of underlying emotional trauma and attachment wounds being brought and projected outward. Thus, I felt the resources that I was gathering were too important and valuable not to share. I aspired to create a list of useful media that profoundly changed my course and shaped my path. It was a personal mission to choose the subject matter of bettering relationships and help highlight it to inspire change and growth. Through a variety of informative and educational content, BRP’s vision is to use tools like relationship science to gain a deeper understanding of ourselves and the interactions that we have with others. What started out as a passion project has become a growing community and resource where meaningful discussions on relationships can be made and fostered.

I’m Lori Gottlieb, author of Maybe You Should Talk To Someone. And I’m Guy Winch, author of Emotional First Aid. We’re both advice columnists, TED speakers, and of course therapists in clinical practice who want to bring the lessons of the therapy room outside the therapy room... to all of you. Each week on DEAR THERAPISTS, we invite you to be a fly-on-the-wall in these personal, raw, transformative sessions with everyday people and then hear what happens when we give concrete, actionable advice and have them report back to let us know how things went after the session ended. We’re sharing these real sessions because we believe that everyone can benefit from hearing how people just like them get through their struggles and grow and change. So sit back and come into the therapy room with us... and prepare to learn a lot about yourself in the process.
